April 16, 2005--In the race to become Virginia's next Governor, Republican Jerry Kilgore leads Democrat Tim Kaine by eight percentage points, 44% to 36%.

Just 36% of Virginia voters believe things in the United States are going in the right direction. Fifty-nine percent (59%) say things have gotten off on the wrong track.

Is it just me or does just about any poll these days say that more Americans think the country is moving in the wrong direction rather than the right one?

If this is so, why didn't they do something about it last November? It certainly doesn't seem to carry much saliency at the polling booth

Great numbers. We need Warner in 2008!

Interesting. Kaine is definitely not following Warner's lead, running right socially but staying in the center fiscally. Warner stayed in the center socially and ran right fiscally.

Kilgore will win regardless.

Warner's approval ratings are so high because there's no point in attacking someone that can't run for reelection. Wait and see what happens if he takes on Allen.

That is exactly why I like the idea of having a six year, one term president. Though I would then support moving Senate races up a year, and letting state legislatures appoint them, as to not create a specific class that always ran with the president.
