Attack appears to be over, at least 135 people dead. These jihadists are only technically human.

I saw a tweet from Joss Whedon that said something along the lines of "somewhere in the world, people are celebrating this, and saying "good job", I just can't wrap my head around that."

Absolutely heartbreaking. RIP.

Yes, this will win public support against the Army's offensive.

Why?

And yet that country will still coddle them.

It's important to note that there is a big difference between the Pakistani Taliban and the Afghan Taliban. They are two related but distinct organisations. Pakistan provides support to the Afghan Taliban, who have a policy of not attacking Pakistan.

This atrocity was committed by the Pakistani Taliban, who's goal in to overthrow the Pakistani government. Therefore, the government doesn't provide them with any support.

It's a question about cost benefits.

The people lose faith in the institutions, the state lose support and people become afraid to send their children to military run schools. The Taliban think the benefits of this are bigger, than the negative PR and hostility they get for the act.

... and here's the thing, they may be right, the government incompetence in dealing with them, may make the people more afraid of going against Taliban than going against the government, and that's fundamental how a state function, people have to fear the retribution of the state more than they fear non government groups like Taliban, if they doesn't, the state's institution becomes powerless.

I never understand why people try to attack horrible people by implying that they "aren't human." As if violence and brutality aren't human qualities.

Because it implies that humanity is synonymous with a certain standard of behavior. A standard which, I hope that we can all agree, the perpetrators of this atrocity have consciously decided to fall far short of.

I'm challenged to think of anything so close to truly being evil than this. It's one thing when children are killed by accident, even when they are killed deliberately. But to target children intentionally, to be killed for something they are by nature not responsible for, is beyond anyone's understanding of morality.

I read they claimed this was in retaliation for their children being killed by the Pakistani military... but the Pakistani military wasn't planning to kill their children in particular, now were they? They're not the same thing- and this is why this attack is so... evil, yes. I keep on reading this will change views in Pakistan, and I really hope so.

Exactly; you engage in behaviour like this, the only reason I'm treating you like a human being is because if I didn't, it would make me as bad as you.

Truth is, you are not much better than them. But obviously, the psychological trick that makes you (us) think you (we) are is necessary for your (our) well-being, so we shouldn't complain that it exists.
