One of the things I noticed on the 2014 election in Illinois how strange the vote breakdown was in Vermilion County.  Rauner got 65% there, and the GOP candidate for Attorney General won there despite losing decisively statewide.  But in the race for state Treasurer, Frehrics took the county by 4 points while winning by less than 10K votes statewide.  What's more, it seems to be in a part of the state that leans somewhat GOP.  Is Frehrics from that region or something?

Frerichs is from Champaign, but a good portion of his SD is in Vermillion county. The SD is made of two HDs. The one covering the cities of Champaign and Urbana is overwhelmingly Dem. However, eerything around it basically Pub. The solution was to put a Pub HD including Danville and most of Vermilion in the SD. It's not so Pub that it can cancel out the Champaign HD, so the SD leans Dem.
