Vegas sounds like an insane place to live in.

but I could never live in a non-beach place that seems to have more of a tourist vibe than a locals vibe like Las Vegas.  Even being in Nashville at the end of August, I found myself thinking how bizarre it'd be living in a city like that ... seemed 75% of the people out and about on Friday and Saturday night were very clearly visiting town.

Having lived in Vegas for a decade, I can tell you these statements aren't particularly accurate.  There are two million locals, and for the most part very few of them spend any leisure time anywhere near the Strip or Fremont.  Would New Yorkers hang out in Times Square all the time?

The rest of Las Vegas is pretty much Phoenix, albeit with a scattering of casinos here and there.  And don't just think that those are all about gambling... the 'residential' casinos are typically where the movie theaters and decent bars/restaurants are.  I'd be in a casino for one of those reasons roughly once a week, and I haven't gambled a dime since about 2011.
