So, BRTD's dream girl versus a Republican version of freepcrusher, basically?

BRTD's dream girl/BRTD's dream girl.

I would obviously vote third party.

And of course, there's literally zero chance that an atheist would be the Republican nominee. The last time that probably happened was 1860 or 1864, and I guarantee you we'll never see it again so long as the Republican Party exists.

Is your uncertainty here meant to reflect the view that some historians have that Lincoln got more religious as the war went on?

In any case I'm not sure I agree, in that while that's certainly true of people who are avowed atheists, I would be very surprised if every Republican nominee since Lincoln has truly in his heart of hearts believed in God. (Not that that distinction makes much practical difference, but...)

How is it a straw man when tons of both exist? Sure neither one is likely to ever be a Presidential candidate but that's not the point.

Is this supposed to be a hard choice for anyone?

Being an atheist (and not downplaying it) would destroy their chances in the south.

FWIW, Lincoln seems to have been some sort of Deist not an atheist.
