I apologize if this poll has already been done. I  would love to see maps.

Rice                     - 206
Southern third party - 23

There would be no reason for a Southern third party, and South Carolina likely wouldn't vote for the third party unless Rice suddenly came out in favor of abortion on demand.

Perhaps you didn't notice, but Rice is a black woman.

I think Rice would lose against a moderate Democrat, but that she'd defeat Hillary Clinton.

If there were two female candidates, even those who don't want a woman in the presidency would have no real choice.  And for that type of person particularly, Hillary is anathema.  Even if they were somewhat racist, they may still support Condelezza Rice over that Clinton woman.

A third party candidate would raise some interesting issues.  I would hate to see a conservative third party candidate who would siphon votes away from Condeleeza and elect Hillary.  Hillary is so hated by conservatives that it is probably unlikely, but you never know.

For all of Hillary's faults, if Iraq is considered a failure by 2007, Condi is doomed. Her main attraction is foriegn policy, and Iraq was her main project. If it fails, even Republicans wouldn't be stupid enough to nominate her.

But if it succeeds, she could be a good candidate.

I don't believe she will really try for the nomination.  She has no domestic policy experience, and no experience with elective office.  She has expressed no interest in elective office, the presidency, or domestic policy.

Still, she must be loving the speculation.

My sentiments exactly. I put this poll up to see who people thought the south would  go to.

Incase you didn't realize HILLARY CLINTON IS A WOMAN AND NOT A SOUTHERNER! I think most people in the South would at least vote for their own. I'd toss AL, MS, NH, CO, and NM. TN, LA, AR, IA, WI, WV and PA would all be toss ups.

Rice is actually reluctantly pro-choice, and since 20% of the country votes on 'moral issues' alone, they'd have to find another reason to.

Two pro-choice candidates in the fray, watch a pro-life party run with this.

No I assumed a racist/intolerant/religious third party would arise.  Southern whites would vote for someone other than Clinton or Rice.

Condi Rice is a Southerner, therefore we would vote for her.

So all Democrats have to do is run someone from the South and we win?

Of course not. That rule only applies to Republicans.

It makes it much easier.  The only Democrat Presidents elected since 1960 have been from the South.

True, although come to think of it, the only Republican presidents elected since 1960 have been from either California or the South.

Damn elitist Southerners. Tongue

I would guess that 99% of the black vote would go to Hillary. (including the +/- 2% either way).  Condi's now white due to the racial draft.
