I just saw that Mesa has a population of nearly half a million, ahead of more famous cities like Minneapolis, St. Louis, New Orleans, Atlanta and Kansas City. Also, it is growing fast. I know literally nothing about this city. Will it become one of the great cities of America?

Mesa is overshadowed in its own metro area by Phoenix and, to a lesser extent, Scottsdale, so no.  It's like asking whether Fort Worth, Texas will become one of the great American cities when it is overshadowed by Dallas in its own metro.

It will be the greatest America has seen. All Americans will want to vote the way it votes, out of recognition of its greatness, so there will be no more Mega coattails, only Mesa coattails.

No, Mesa is just endless sprawl, and has nothing distinctive.

No, Mesa's 500k falls in Phoenix's metro.

New Orleans, central has 500k but New Orleans metro has like 1.5 mill.

One of the biggest, perhaps. One of the greatest, certainly not.

Meh, I'm pretty sure long-term, AZ as a whole is going to be a bust unless mass desalinization and importation of water to the area occurs.

Anaheim, it seems like, considering Santa Ana is checking in at 97%. Orange County is certainly a hub in it's own right, but I would argue Irvine is the epicenter of that, not Anaheim and certainly not Santa Ana.
