Yeah I'll go with Cuomo. I prefer him to insufferable noise.

All metal?  I generally agree.  But, there are some good Black Sabbath, AC/DC and Dio songs.

There is zero metal music on my computer. If I'm going to listen to "heavy" music, obviously it's going to be hardcore.

Wow, a thread full of idiots.  How bizarre.

I would think that a neoliberal aristocrat who has made a habit of reguarly Benedict Arnolding his party on some of the more important issues would be viewed in a more negative light than the music blaring from the meth addict in the '95 Toyota next to you on I-45 or whatever (and this is just using a stereotype more favorable to BRTD).

Of course, I guess this is expecting too much out of a forum that believes that Al Smith was a conservative in 1928 or that Nixon was a left winger.

But of course of course, all metalheads are far right wing Dutch nationalists or whatever BRTD said.

Did you all know the drummer of a Greek black metal band was a candidate on Golden Dawn's list? He even made it into parliament very briefly after May 2012 but not after June 2012.

Luckily I have no problem listening to any bands I like because I know they are completely pure of all reactionary thoughts, and that no member is infected by attitudes of racism, heterosexism, sexism and gender oppression, or any form of non-progressive thought.

Reading BRTD's posts in this thread I feel like I've stepped into a parallel universe where Glittertind doesn't exist. I don't like it here.

I'm also surprised that BRTD is unfamiliar with bands like Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden, or if he is, that he doesn't know that they can be classified as metal. They may not be his cup of tea, but they're a far cry from the violent skinhead neo-Nazi black metal stereotype that he traffics in.

I'm sure that's false, and requiring or even being interested in that degree of perceived ideological purity is honestly pretty weird.

Reading BRTD's posts in this thread I feel like I've stepped into a parallel universe where Glittertind doesn't exist. I don't like it here.

I have no clue what that is.

Well one is considered one of the most influential industrial rock acts ever and was covered by Johnny Cash, the other was pretty clearly part of the grunge scene.

Also take into account the extremely mysoginistic brutal death metal scene.

Luckily I have no problem listening to any bands I like because I know they are completely pure of all reactionary thoughts, and that no member is infected by attitudes of racism, heterosexism, sexism and gender oppression, or any form of non-progressive thought.

I'm sure that's false, and requiring or even being interested in that degree of perceived ideological purity is honestly pretty weird.

The scene is EXTREMELY one-sided politically, it's basically nothing but progressive SJW types with nothing remotely conservative, and all sorts of people have written lyrics and zine articles about purging themselves of reactionary attitudes and thoughts after joining it or if not attacking themselves in a very Maoist self-criticism way (example, see this, lyrics below in description, I guarantee you'd NEVER find a metal band that'd write something like that). But there's also the fact that everyone assumes the default politics is that and thus I constantly at shows hear bands trashing Republicans or the Iraq War when that was going on and there being nothing but uproarious cheering. Also of all the band touring vans I've seen, guess what the ratio is of bumper stickers with a progressive political message to bumper stickers of a conservative message? I actually can't give you an answer because it'd be doing a divide by zero error.

Also note John Oliver's observation here: http://youtu.be/NFEeS2OXpoI?t=1m37s

You want to know something crazy, BRTD? Some people listen to music because they like the way it sound, not because it validates their own political views and opinions. I mean, if you hear a song are you supposed to figure out the artist's political views before you decide if you like it or not? Seriously, WTF? News flash, people with differing political views exist, and completely dismissing entire genres of things because of possibly running into people with differing political views is completely stupid and closed minded.

Well one is considered one of the most influential industrial rock acts ever and was covered by Johnny Cash, the other was pretty clearly part of the grunge scene.

Amazingly, definitions of music genres are sufficiently subjective that bands can work in a few different genres at once and not everybody feels the need to impose minutely detailed Borgesian taxonomies on them to decide which one descriptor is most accurate.

Uh-huh, see, the issue is that thought patterns (and hence 'non-progressive thought') really can't be reduced to lists of policy positions, and the sensibility that they can be consciously analyzed and rejected in the same way as policy positions leaves a lot to be desired, psychologically speaking.

Guys, Soundgarden came from the Seattle grunge scene, but similarly to Nirvana, moved away from it to become an alt-rock band with traces of grunge.

Just to show you what grunge is: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_nGsT_qFMBs

The only "metal" I have is some Led Zeppelin, which is like the silicon of the genre or something, but that's still obviously enough for me to vote for it.

we leave our higher educations that we all 'must' get
with a signature stamped paper and a mound of debt
the bank has got us by the throat and then we're forced to settle
for the jobs we hate, 9 to 5, 40 hours, 40 years til the day...

we are too weak to work, too frail to play.
No friends or lovers because they've all passed away.
We've waited for this day all of our lives long,
and on our death bed the stereo plays our favorite teenage anthem song. we sing along....
