Quote
Binyamin Netanyahu’s dramatic declaration to world leaders in 2012 that Iran was about a year away from making a nuclear bomb was contradicted by his own secret service, according to a top-secret Mossad document.

It is part of a cache of hundreds of dossiers, files and cables from the world’s major intelligence services – one of the biggest spy leaks in recent times.

Brandishing a cartoon of a bomb with a red line to illustrate his point, the Israeli prime minister warned the UN in New York that Iran would be able to build nuclear weapons the following year and called for action to halt the process.

But in a secret report shared with South Africa a few weeks later, Israel’s intelligence agency concluded that Iran was “not performing the activity necessary to produce weapons”. The report highlights the gulf between the public claims and rhetoric of top Israeli politicians and the assessments of Israel’s military and intelligence establishment.

Of course. You can be absolutely sure that anything the Israeli government says about Iran is an outright lie.

The Iranian bomb is sitting right next to the Iraqi WMD.

Israeli paper reporting an Iranian bomb is imminent, date 1984...

Nuclear technology is aged 70, if Iran would have really wanted a bomb they would have gotten one by now. They want power and legitimacy in the big game of global realpolitik. Until Mr. fear became PM you hardly ever heard about Iran until he made it his flag topic to scare the crap out of the small folk.

Shockingly, the major American media outlets are basically treating this as if it never happened.

"Anti-Israel bias" my ass.

Well, arguably it IS anti-Israeli bias. Hurting Israel for domestic political reasons, aren´t they?

This is actually a complete non-story, the cables don't contradict Bibi, and the Mosssad isn't going around contradicting Bibi with secret info to random foreign agencies like the SSA.

For a further explanation see here.

I don't know how much truth there is to this as I can't confirm the accuracy of the paper cited, but this came up on my dash: http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/News.aspx/191966#.VPVxX_n3FNs

If true, the relationship between Bibi and the President is probably as harsh is not harsher than what most people believe.

Obama basically told Netanyahu he could go ahead and bomb Iran back in like, what? 2009? When Biden was on the Meet the Press or something and was like "Israeli is their own country, they can do whatever they want to do, we don't comment on that."

Netanyahu didn't do it though because he doesn't actually want to go to war with Iran. He just wants to use them to drum up political support.

I'm pretty sure Netanyahu would have exposed that publicly if that was the case. A threat by the US President to essentially declare war on an ally would potentially be enough to topple that President.

I really doubt it happened. The only places I can find references to it are on right-wing Israeli sites that are taking it from a sketchy Kuwaiti newspaper.
