It was always pretty well known in certain circles that Spacey was not a nice person. Of course, I'm not sure if that's what Vox was thinking of at the time.

Obviously not, all people knew back then for sure was Zoey Barnes just got thrown under the subway.

In the context of that post, it was probably just meant as a joke. But you're right that it definitely works even better now.
