Now that Mitch has declined to run for Governor and thus paving the way for Governor Vitter, a U.S. Senate seat will become vacant at the beginning of next year.
Do you think a Landrieu is going to seize the opportunity, or will they give it to the GOP?
1.I'm far from convinced that David "Diaper" Vitter will win the governorship.
2.The Democratic candidate John Bel Edwards is starting to emerge as a serious and credible challenger now that the party has finally rallied behind him.
Vitter and Edwards will almost certainly go to a runoff and will likely be very close on the first ballot. The winner will depend on whether more voters of moderate Republican candidates (at least much more moderate than Vitter) Jay Dardenne and Scott Angelle vote based on party affiliation or on ideology. If more vote on affiliation Vitter will win easily, if more vote on ideology Edwards has a very good chance of winning.
Should Edwards win, Vitter would obviously be a wounded incumbent (I wouldn't go so far as to same a lame duck though by any means.) Hopefully then Vitter would just retire and go away. Either way, a Democratic win in the governor's race would likely entice Mitch Landrieu to run for the Senate seat, if he is interested in it.
