Wow, these polls really are cowardly, aren't they? Suddenly, with no explanation, huge swings in different directions so that they all end up predicting a tie. Hilarious.

Do they still do the big swingometer, with the guy moving the thing back and forth to show the audience? Or does UKIP, SNP, etc. totally screw that up?

I read on reddit that if parliament is "doubly hung" and a new election is necessary, then the Tories would have a huge advantage because they're basically the only party that can afford to run two general election campaigns in a year. Is this true or were they being hyperbolic?

In honor of today's events, I am treating myself to a traditional British dish of chicken tikka masala for lunch.

Jeremy Vine has his weird paving stone graphics again.

Yeah, that's lame. They already did that last year. Come up with a new 3d virtual gimmick BBC!

Is there any possibility of UKIP voters claiming to have voted for the Tories in the exit poll?

Could be a shy-UKIP (or a shy-unionist in Scotland) effect in the exit poll, yeah.

The guy who did the exit poll says Lib Dems got about 8% nationally (like the polls said), but no incumbency advantage.

I assume it's based on the exit poll. But if the UKIP vote votes Tory, he's probably done for. That is one of the things in play here - are UKIP voters voting Tory where the Tory is in the hunt, and UKIP is not, otherwise voting UKIP, draining votes from from Labour. Labour's vote in Sunderland went up because of the LD collapse, while at the same time Labour was losing votes to the UKIP, is what I strongly suspect. That is a very dangerous dynamic for Labour if that is what is going on.

Maybe, but UKIP has been doing better than predicted in the first two seats.

These two seats seem a lot closer to the consensus before the election than they do to the exit poll, at least to my untrained eye.
