This is absolutely depressing. And wholly unrealistic...

There is no way after passing an agenda like you described the Republicans would keep a majority in Congress in 2018. There would be megatsunami wave against them. Warren would win a landslide in 2020 and have massive coattails.

7:30 PM: It is now 7:30 on the East Coast, and we have polls closing in Ohio, West Virginia, and North Carolina.  We can call West Virginia for President Walker- no surprise there-, North Carolina, not really  amajor focus in this cycle, is too early to call, with the President favored, and perennial battleground Ohio is too close to call.  Let's also check in on the Virginia situation:

Virginia (15% reporting):
Scott Walker: 50%
Elizabeth Warren: 49%

We are not ready to call it yet, but tonight may end Virginia's transition from solid red to solid blue.

7:58 PM: We will soon have polls closing in a bunch of states, but we first have an important projection to make.  Senator Warren has indeed carried the Commonwealth of Virginia tonight.  Virginia is now a state that clearly leans Democratic in a close national election.  This is fairly expected, but still a good sign for the challenger tonight.

Virginia (20% reporting):
Elizabeth Warren: 49.7%
Scott Walker: 49.5%

Now, we do have a bunch more projections to make, as it is the top of the hour.  Our challenger tonight has carried the states of Illinois, Delaware, Maryland, the District of Columbia, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine, including the 2nd District.  The only surprise there is the speed in which we were able to call the Granite State.  On the Republican side, the President has won the states of Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee, Oklahoma, and Missouri.  Pennsylvania and Florida are currently too close to call.

8:30 PM: Polls are now closing in Arkansas, which the President will carry comfortably.  In addition, FOX News is now able to project that North Carolina will be won by President Walker and Vice President Martinez.  The Democratic campaign had hoped to target the Tarheel State, but the inelastic state proved slightly too Republican tonight.

Walker leads 113-96.

8:42 PM: FOX News is now able to project that Pennsylvania will be carried by Warren.  The state's socially liberal Philadelphia suburbs have, apart from Chester County, strongly rejected the Walker presidency.  This is a key Democratic win, making it even more important for the Republicans to win Ohio and Florida, both of which were considered to be tilting towards Walker, but are as of yet uncalled.

It's 9:45 PM and FOX News is now ready to project a winner in the state of Florida, as President Walker is going to carry the state and its 29 Electoral Votes.

Florida (84% reporting):
Walker: 51.0%
Warren: 48.8%

President Walker now leads Senator Warren 237-176.  The President is highly likely to win the support of Montana, Idaho, Utah, Alaska, and, probably, Iowa.  Those states put him at 259 votes, 11 short of a majority.  Wisconsin, Colorado, and, perhaps, Nevada will be in play for the President tonight in an attempt to win re-election.  Senator Warren, assuming that she does indeed win Nevada, in addition to California, Oregon, Washington, and Hawaii, will have 260 votes.  We are expecting an extraordinarily close finish to this election.

It is 10 PM on the East Coast, and we have a few poll closings from Mountain States and Iowa.  We can project President Walker the winner of Utah and Montana.  Iowa and Nevada are too early to call, with the Hawkeye state leaning towards the President and the Silver State towards Warren.

Let's take an updated look at our map:

President Walker: 246
Senator Warren: 176

Let's talk with Republican strategist Karl Rove about this election:

Kelly: Mr. Rove, you have voiced your displeasure with the Walker administration, even going so far as to change your registration to Independent.  How do you see tonight shaping up?

Rove: Thanks for having me, Megyn.  I am dissatisfied with the level of Conservatism we have seen the last few years.  Yes, I am officially an Independent, but I still consider myself slightly right-leaning, a bit like what Senator Cruz likes to call a "RINO".  Anyway, I think that tonight's election is a referendum on two extremes that few want, but both hate the other too much to allow a third party candidate to have any traction.  Believe it or not, I voted for the President today, as I think Senator Warren's Presidency would be even worse.

Kelly: Who is going to win tonight?

Rove: It is still very early to say.  It will be a great sign for the President if he can win his home state, as that, combined with those I expect him to win, can get him to 269, which could be enough tonight.

10:41 PM: We are now able to call Nevada for Senator Warren

10:52 PM: Iowa is now a pretty clearly Republican-leaning state, and it has been called for President Walker.

11:00 PM: The polls are now closed on the West Coast, and we can call California, Washington, Oregon, and Hawaii for Senator Warren and Idaho for President Walker.

Elizabeth Warren: 260
Scott Walker: 256

Polls in Alaska do not close for two more hours, but those three votes will go to the President.  Elizabeth Warren can now become the 46th President of the United States by simply winning the President's home state of Wisconsin, where he is currently marginally ahead.  Wisconsin and Alaska alone going for the President would force a tie and send the election to the House of Representatives, which will likely be in Republican control, but much closer than it has been in the past.  In that situation, the Senate would get to determine the Vice President.  Tonight in the Senate, Democrats have only managed two pickups- Colorado and Maine- despite a favorable national climate, showing the deep geographic polarization our country experiences.  Even in North Carolina, Thom Tillis won re-election despite making some controversial statements about how restaurants should be allowed to serve their customers toilet water as long as they disclose that fact.  Joni Ernst's re-election has sparked many to want her to be the Republican nominee in 2024.

Let's check in on the state of our two remaining races:

Wisconsin (98% reporting):
Scott Walker: 49.99%
Elizabeth Warren: 49.92%
Margin: 1,983 Votes

Colorado (87% reporting):
Scott Walker: 50.7%
Elizabeth Warren: 49.1%

1 AM: We appreciate your patience on this long night, waiting to find out who will be our President.  And, finally, after two long hours with no new news, we are ready to make a projection, but it's not what you want to know.  President Walker has carried Alaska and its three votes.  He now trails Senator Warren 260-259 with Colorado and Wisconsin extremely close.  Let's check in on those two states:

Wisconsin (99.99% reporting):
Scott Walker: 49.96%
Elizabeth Warren: 49.95%
Margin: 43 Votes

Colorado (97% reporting):
Scott Walker: 50.1%
Elizabeth Warren: 49.8%
Margin: 6,094 Votes

Elizabeth Warren: 260
Scott Walker: 259

Popular vote (99.9% reporting):
Scott Walker: 49.94%
Elizabeth Warren: 49.94%

That's right- we don't even know who will win the popular vote and may never know that, given that there will be no recounts to determine the winner of the popular vote.  Can we just call this election a tie?

2:30 AM:  We have some major news to report, but not about the Presidential election.  With 100% of the vote in in Puerto Rico, Puerto Rico has, by a margin of under 500 votes, voted in favor of becoming the 51st state.  Congress has already issued a binding referendum, so, barring appeal, Puerto Rico will be a state effective January 1st.  Also on the island, the PNP Candidate, who identifies nationally as a Republican, has won re-election as Governor.

We have 100% of the vote in in both states, but we have yet to call either:

Wisconsin:
Walker: 49.95%
Warren: 49.95%
Margin: Walker +13 Votes

Colorado:
Warren: 50.0%
Walker: 49.8%
Margin: Warren +5,863 Votes

We expect a recount in both states; with that said, the Wisconsin recount looks more likely to see a changed winner.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 9, 2020:
The recount has confirmed Senator Elizabeth Warren as the winner of Colorado's 9 electoral votes.  This gets her to 269, to President Walker's 259.  Wisconsin still hangs in the balance.  Should President Walker win his home state, this election will go to Congress, where the Republicans have a 226-209 advantage in the House of Representatives 57-41-2 majority (Senators Manchin and King are true Independents).

DECEMBER 13, 2020:

After weeks and weeks of recounts, all of the votes have been counted from President Walker's home state of Wisconsin.

President Walker received 1,473,691 votes to Senator Warren's 1,473,672.  President Walker has carried his home state by a meager 19 votes.  Senator Warren has not yet conceded the state, claiming that it is impossible to know who really won when it is that close.  She is appealing to the Supreme Court, which is unlikely to side with her, given its strongly Conservative lean since Ginsburg's retirement.

Should the Wisconsin results be held up, we will have an electoral tie, with each candidate receiving 269 votes.  Each state's House delegation will vote for the President, after which the Senate will choose the VP.  We fully expect both President Walker and Vice President Martinez to remain in power.  For the record, your guess is as good as ours as to who won the popular vote in this election.

Here's your electoral map:

President Scott Walker: 269
Senator Elizabeth Warren: 269

DECEMBER 15, 2020:

The Supreme Court has declined to hear Senator Warren's request to split Wisconsin's electors due to the razor-thin margin of the state, saying that there is no legal precedent for doing so.  Justices Sotomayor and Kagan, both appointees of President Obama, were the only dissenters.  Therefore, both Walker and Warren have 269 pledged electors at the Electoral College, which will take place this afternoon.  Assuming that there is not a faithless elector, this election will go to Republican-controlled Congress.

3:30 PM:
There was not a faithless elector, so the House of Representatives will vote on the President on January 4th, the first day of the 117th Congress.  Each state's delegation gets one vote.  On Tuesday the 5th, the Senate will vote for Vice President.  We expect President Walker and Vice President Martinez to both win re-election.

DECEMBER 31, 2020 11:45 PM:

We are sorry to interrupt your New Year's celebration, but we have major news in the ongoing Presidential election.  Vice President Martinez just issued a press release saying that the results of the election, combined with the last four years, have caused her to reconsider her role in the country.  She is highly disappointed with the extremely Conservative Walker administration.  She says that the President says that he acknowledges that he needs to become less polarizing, but she does not see any actions to suggest that he is sincere.  The Vice President will still stand for re-election in the Senate on Tuesday, but she will step down right after her Inauguration.  There is some thought, however, that some moderates in the Senate could now favor Governor Cuomo for Senate, rather than an unknown quantity.  The Republicans hold a 57-42-1 majority in the upper chamber.

It appears that the Vice President wanted to sneak this news in when it would be overshadowed by New Year's, but that seems to have failed on her.  It is now 11 minutes to 2021 and we take you back to Times Square with plenty of time to watch the ball drop!

JANUARY 1, 2021:

At midnight, Puerto Rico was set to officially become the 51st state of the United States.  However, late last night, the Supreme Court issued a stay to its statehood in a unanimous result to give the island time to do a thorough recount.  Critics say that this decision is inconsistent with the decision to deny Senator Warren's challenge to the Wisconsin votes.  On the other hand, others argue that, unlike what Senator Warren wanted, this is not changing the result of any election, but just giving time to be sure that the reported result is correct.  Should it become a state, its two senators and six House members will be elected this summer in a special election.

JANUARY 4, 2021:
As expected, the House of Representatives has re-elected President Walker.  Senator Warren has conceded, but refused to wish the President the best.  She hopes that a strong liberal will replace Mr. Walker in four years and has called on him to pick a moderate or even liberal Vice President should Susana Martinez resign.  Some on the left have called for a return of a more socially moderate Democratic Party, as, with gay marriage five years in the rearview mirror, Democrats have struggled to convince voters that their views are right.  They point to the impending abortion ban as evidence of a need to become more socially Conservative.  Others have begun to faintly call for a divorce between the red and the blue states.

JANUARY 5, 2021:
With the Vice Presidential slot unclear, the vote went down completely on partisan lines, with all 57 Republican Senators voting for Vice President Martinez, who plans to retire shortly after inauguration, despite a lack of knowledge as to who will be her replacement.  All 41 Democrats voted for Governor Cuomo, but could only convince Independent Senator King to join them.  Senator Manchin abstained, completely dissatisfied with both parties.

The Vice President still maintains that she will step down on the 20th.

I have not forgotten about this!

JANUARY 21, 2021:

Vice President Martinez officially stepped down from her role this morning, one day after being inaugurated for a second term.  At the same time, she declared her candidacy for the 2024 election to replace term-limited President Walker.  At this time, FOX News is able to exclusively confirm that President Walker has nominated Senator and former Governor Bill Haslam of Tennessee to be the Vice President.  Haslam does not pretend to be anything other than a conservative, but he is to President Walker's left, meaning that maybe the President does want to have his second term move to the center a bit.  Reports are that Senator Ted Cruz was also lobbying for the nomination.  With a strongly Republican Senate, we expect Senator Haslam to be easily confirmed as Vice President.

(Note: Bill Haslam and Bob Corker switched roles in 2018)
