Hey everyone, is it just me or is there a pattern with how the last few candidates emerge in the nominating process. Let's look at 2012 for example it wound down to 4 candidates, these are my general observations so obviously many of you will disagree:

Romney, Paul, Santorum and Gingrich and which factions of the GOP did they represent?

Romney was the more establishment/moderate/business conservative type.
Paul being representative of the libertarian wing of the party;
Santorum represented the more populist and Christian conservative wing of the party.
Gingrich was a nominal conservative representing the more "normal" and not tea party  conservative wing

in 2008 the final four ended up being McCain, Huckabee, Romney and Paul and once again what factions did they represent?

McCain establishment and moderate candidate
Paul libertarian/anti-war
Romney Before he flip flopped to becoming the "moderate" of 2012 he said he was the conservative alternate so I'm placing him as general conservative
Huckabee evangelical conservative Christian conservative wing

Do you think this is a pattern that is emerging that could repeat itself in 2016? Or do you think this is something else?
