Let's say that Abraham Lincoln suddenly appears and reveals that he was not in fact assassinated, but instead is a time traveler who has traveled 150 years into the future to save the Republican Party and America in their hour of need. Since he was originally elected before the passage of the Twenty-Second Amendment, constitutional scholars rule that he is eligible to run for a third term. He enters the Republican race and easily brushes aside the competition to win the nomination of his Grand Old Party. He chooses paleoconservative political commentator Pat Buchanan as his running mate.

Meanwhile, after all of the other Democratic contenders are killed in a freak lightning strike during an outside debate in December of 2015, former Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Chafee is able to secure his own party's nomination. Televangelist Pat Robertson, who has defected to the Democratic Party and vociferously denounces "Dishonest Abe" as the Anti-Christ, is chosen as Chafee's attack dog running mate.

Who wins? Discuss with maps, please.

Lincoln / Buchanan-65.2%-447
Chafee / Robertson-34.8%-91

West Coast: Lincoln easily outperforms Chafee, running circles around him in progressive bastions
Non-Pacific Northwest: Chafee gets decent margins on his more anti-war stances, nearly winning Idaho. As a whole, however, Lincoln wins this area.
Southwest: Strong Lincoln territory, especially with the Hispanic population supporting him en masse. Texas and Oklahoma, however, vote Chafee because of lingering Southern influence, although things are very very close in Texas.
Southeast: Due to saltiness about the civil war, Chafee wins most states here solely because people hate Lincoln and the Union. Nikki Haley threatens to secede.
Great Plains: Lincoln does well here as his positions come in handy for farmers.
Great Lakes and Upper Midwest: Lincoln destroys Chafee here. His home state advantages in Illinois and Kentucky propel him to easy victories.
Mid Atlantic: Lincoln wins here especially through cities, but Chafee suffers on his environmental positions in coal country.
Northeast: Lincoln's best territory, especially Rhode Island, where Chafee gets 2 votes; his own and his wife's.

Closest States:
Texas 50.06%-49.94%
Louisiana 50.10%-49.90%
Tennessee 50.12%-49.88%
Georgia 50.86%-49.14%
Idaho 51.65%-48.35%

Well, if he can slay vampires, why can't he travel through time?

Lincoln basically wins all the states, unless people don't believe that he's actually still alive and thinks that he's just a low-life scammer (this would be probable).

The South loves Lincoln - he himself didn't believe blacks were equal in intellect, so unless you think we want to enslave blacks, he would win.

I'm pretty sure DC, with its high black population, would vote for Lincoln.

This, of course, assumes that Lincoln adapts his views on race to the 21st century.

Unfortunately, DC is programmed to be perma-Democratic. Even against Lincoln, it would vote for George Wallace if he had a "D" next to his name.

I don't think so... I think people have minds of their own, and would vote their hearts...
