I've raised this with a few posters. What might be helpful is for those who are playing to note what sort of party they would like to join so that parties can either be formed on that basis or that parties can find potential recruits.

So here we go.

Here are potential 'parties'/blocs (not these aren't party names)

LEFT BLOC
Socialist
Social Democratic

RIGHT BLOC
Conservative
Classical Liberal/Libertarian

OTHER

Agrarian/Farmer
Green
Progressive Regionalist (New England) - I might set this one up, even if I don't play it.
Populist Regionalist (maybe Texas)

-----

Obviously, common sense dictates that there shouldn't be half of us in a regionalist party and that really the balance should be Left/Right. The Other parties can also hold a balance of power

So here we go

Afleitch x (Conservative or Progressive Regionalist)

My preference would be towards some kind of socialist party, maybe a green or progressive regionalist party for the sake of making things interesting. I'm open to anything left-wing.

I'd fit in well in a liberal (European-style) party or more likely as a wet Tory.

I am planning on establishing a Leninist party that is tentatively going to be called the Workers Party. We may only have like 3 members but I want the chance to play as a kind of revolutionary oppositionist party in a parliamentary context

Yes, I agree that some kind of role-playing where we actually take a position to identical to what we actually believe would be interesting. Not quite what you said, but I think I will personally be staking out a One Nation Tory "niche" for the game--which I suppose I would identify as anyway, but I expect that a more paternalist (as opposed to market-liberal) position would mean I will lean more left wing economic than otherwise.

But nevertheless Conservative. Also, are we assuming names or must we stick with the usernames? If we are role-playing I'd be inclined towards the former.

Some sort of urbane liberal "Civic Democratic" party. Basically, a party that leans socially liberal with some "traditionalist" aspects, and leans left on economic issues with a few exceptions.

Same, I'd prefer we adopt personas like the old Mock Parliaments. It would be a nice departure from Atlasia. I mean, come on, how many people named Chairman Sanchez exist on the rolls of the United States census??

No personas, please. It always descends into vaguely irritating Dungeons and Dragons-ing.

Well, yes, everyone playing as a 33 year old Super Politician with a hot wife and an anime avatar like they do at AH.com is rather annoying. But if we were to adopt realistic personas, that could be quite fun. I am fine with either.

^^^This sounds fine

I think it's cool if you want to adopt a persona rather than yourself, if you want to play someone with different political views than your own or something, but it should be kept simple and other players shouldn't be expected to remember your character's name or anything

We could create an index of who is who, but that might over complicate things. I'll leave that up to everyone else.

I'd be interested in a centre to centre-left social liberal party. I suppose I could join a social democratic party if a liberal one didn't emerge.

I'm in the same boat as BaconBacon - we seem to be lacking parties between TNF's communists and the right (not sure what to make of the Socialists).

I've created a new political party which might fall into several of the categories Afleitch suggested in the opening post, and might be a good fit for you two.

This is unworkable and I really think it's a bad idea that takes far too much into the perilous realm of being little more than an interactive What If timeline. Please, please, no personas - if someone wants to adopt a persona different to their "real" one I don't have a problem (I mean I'm a Tory MP) but I just want to avoid LOL NEWT GINGRICH MP XD if at all possible.

Anyway, cross-posting from The Other Game -

I agree with Yankee and Leinad: there's no reason why the two games can't coexist peacefully. Perhaps we could even appoint ambassadors and conduct diplomacy between the two.

This is an interesting idea. A leaner, more focused Atlasia and another nation in the Mock Parliament board (assuming for the moment that they'd both have roughly similar populations...) would solve one of Atlasia's major problems in one fell swoop - the fact that it exists in vacuum.

This is intriguing, no?

It is intriguing. There's merit to that; diplomacy in both games.

Yeah, lets try and run this like we did the last Mock Parliament in terms of using personas. Nothing crazy like the Americana stuff, just basic personas that interact with each other in the same manner users did in Atlasia.

I really, really don't like the idea of us roleplaying, as was done in the old Mock Parliment. I think that the Atlasia system is actually superior in this case, where we act through our usernames, because I feel like this isn't the kind of game where we should be pretending to be some old dude in a suit. Plus it makes it a hell of a lot easier for us to switch parties than it would if we decided we needed to 'create a new character' everytime that happened. We can debate it in the Provisional Parliament thread, but I just wanted to throw out there my total and complete opposition to such a proposal.
