I tried to upload some election data to create a map on Google Maps, but it gave me a bunch of placemarks without polygons.  Does anyone know how to make election maps with polygons on Google?

It's been a while since I did the 2008 precinct results map, but it's neither intuitive nor easy.  First, you need a shapefile of the geography you want to use, IIRC, converted to a .kml file.f  The shapefile should have the attribute that you wish to map (Winning Percentage or whatever) in one of the first two or three columns.  Then, you need to upload the .kml file to Google Fusion Tables and color the map the way you want it.

Adam Griffin would know more, as he has done this more recently than I have.
