In 1992, Paul Tsongas successfully out-primaries Bill Clinton. He begins by taking Jerry Brown's endorsement after the latter wins Maine and gives Tsongas South Dakota. Then, Tsongas soars to victory in Maryland, Minnesota, Idaho, Utah, and Washington to Clinton's Georgia. He proceeds to capture Wyoming, Nevada, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Illinois, and Michigan. Clinton counters with Florida, Louisiana, Missisippi, Missouri, and Oklahoma. Tsongas manages to get the victory with Dodd's endorsement giving him Connecticut.

Tsongas chooses Brown as his running-mate. With diverging incidences accounted for, the tickets for 1992 are as follows:
Paul Tsongas(D-MA)/Jerry Brown(D-CA)
George H. W. Bush(R-TX)/Dan Quayle(R-IN)
Ross Perot(I-TX)/John B. Anderson(I-IL)

Eugene McCarthy(L-MN)/Barry Goldwater, Jr(L-CA)
Ralph Nader(G-CT)/Bernie Sanders(G-VT)
Pat Buchanan(C-VA)/Chuck Baldwin(C-TX)
