Allen and Frist are running as we speak.  Santorum and Sanford may jump in IF they win re-election.

Allen and Frist, as said, are definitely running.  I don't think Frist will get it...or maybe that's just wishful thinking on my part...so I voted Allen.

Although I'm still cheering for Jeb, or Sanford, or Romney.  I'd probably be fine with Allen...don't know too much about him though.

EDIT: Oh, to run...

Well, in that case, Allen (assuming no Warner nonsense) and Frist...then Sanford (if he isn't too busy down there), Santorum (if he wins and feels like going up against his Senate buddies)...then Jeb, if he has a change of heart...and Cheney ain't running.  Barring demonic possession.

There are plenty of others who could run that aren't listed.  Tim Pawlenty is the most likely that I don't see listed.  I voted Frist, Allen, and Sanford as well.  Santorum will run if he wins reelection, but I'd peg him as a slight underdog at this point.  Allen and Sanford should win.  Frist is in for sure and he must be defeated unless you want a Democrat to be president after the 2008 election.

Sanford and Allen. I don't think Frist thinks he's at all electable.

Damn, how could I forget McCain.  There was an article in yesterday's paper where he says, "I'd definately like to be President."  Barring any reoccurance of his melanoma or any other health problems, he will be running.

Frist thinks he's electable, and that's what's scary.  He's running.

Pataki - would drop out in 2007
Guilani - would get destroyed
McCain, Hagel - would be long shots
Pawlenty, Owens, Sanford - Unknown
Frist, Santorum, Allen, Brownback, Jeb - One of these will likely win

Ah yes, the wingnuts.

I wonder if the Repubs will rig the primary voting so one of these guys will win.

I voted for Sanford, Frist, Santorum, and Allen.  I forgot about McCain, Guiliani, Romney, and Pawlenty.

Of those 8, here is the order I think they would appear in their chances to obtain the GOP nod to go up against the Dem's man (or woman).

1. Frist
2. Allen
3. McCain
4. Sanford
5. Pawlenty
6. Santorum
7. Romney
8. Guiliani

Here is the order of my preference.

1. Frist
2. McCain
3. Allen
4. Santorum
5. Sanford
6. Pawlenty (don't know much about him)
7. Guiliani
8. Romney

I'm glad to see most people have accepted the fact that Jeb has no desire to run.  I get tired of seeing his name appear on lists as possible 2008 candidates.  And why list Cheney?  He'll probably be in a coma come 2008.  Smiley

Frist - he'll run
Allen - him too
McCain - he could try, but he's too old and too ill.
Sanford - I would expect so
Pawlenty - same as above
Santorum - whatever the result, 2006 will have exhausted him.
Romney - he'll run
Giuliani - him too
Pataki - very much doubt it.

He's put up many fights in the past. 2006 will be his greatest challenge but he will not be exhausted.

If he loses or drops out, then he's a write-off for a presidential run.  If he wins, and I would expect it to be by a razor-thin majority, then he would have to play catch-up on his potential rivals to drum up the funding again.  Plus, he'd probably lose some points in Pennsylvania, for making it fairly obvious that he was planning a 2008 run while struggling for re-election as well.

If he loses, of course he's finished. If he drops out of the Senate race, he's not written off. In fact, he'd likely start running for President soon after.

If he wins, he'll take a very good look at the race. He has no problem with fundraising. As for losing points for doing 2006 and 2008 at pretty much the same time, that issue will be brought up with Rendell, too. I don't think it will be that big of a deal. Also, he's not making any 2008 race obvious. In fact, he's focusing more on a bigger leadership position if he gets re-elected (Whip or maybe Leader). In a poll, 60% of Pennsylvanians think that Santorum's leadership position is a good thing for the state. He's going to focus on that a lot.
