TORIES WIN 8 SEATS!
CONSERVATIVE GOVERNMENT ALMOST ASSURED!
Conservative leader Potus, pictured here, is likely to be appointed the nation's first Prime Minister by Interim President Hashemite.

Cochamba, Bolivia, South America--In the first ever South American election contested since the founding of our nation, the center-right Conservative Party has achieved what can only be called an impressive victory, winning over a third of the seats, with no other party getting a fourth.

Maybe Potus, their party's leader, should change his name to PMoSA (Prime Minister of South America), as that title is his barring a massive left-of-center coalition.

Indeed, many predictions had the Tories on top, but the consensus was that a coalition between the Socialists and Social Liberals could keep the Conservatives out of power. But a combination of that sort will only achieve 10 members, meaning that the small, far-left Worker's Party, consisting of just 2 MPs--interim Registrar General Turkisblau and Provisional Parliament Speaker TNF--would be required to maintain that government. One would assume that the somewhat centrist Social Liberals--led by Talleyrand--would rather a coalition with the Conservatives (be it a formal coalition or a supply-and-confidence arrangement) than them.

Credit goes to the Conservatives for running a successful campaign, winning many swing voters with their positive message centered around being "Ready for the Road Ahead." This message resonated with Bore, who voted Tory despite being a left-of-center Scot. He explained "I think the Conservatives (combined with whoever would be a coalition party) would have the best leadership team to make this thing work"

Who will be in Parliament?

Based on the party lists and number of seats, the first parliament will consist of these members:

Conservative: Potus, Simfan, Oakvale, Rpryor, Dereich, Cassius, Goldwater, and Spamage.
Social Liberals: Talleyrand, SJoyce, Barnes, Blair, and Vega.
Socialists: Crabcake, Al Sibboleth, PJ, Xahar, and Murica.
Worker's Party: Turkisblau and TNF.
Pioneers: Sanchez.

Disappointments for Notable Candidates

Neither the Whig Party nor the Free Alliance party won any seats in the election, while the Pioneers only won a single seat, leaving active MPP Leinad out of Parliament.

The Whig Party included members Clarence and Winfield, and was doing good in some of the pre-election polls--achieving 14.3% in one, finishing ahead of both the Pioneers and Worker's Party. But they didn't expand their base to any non-member votes in the election, and thus failed to obtain representation at Cochamba.

The regionalist Free Alliance party didn't get any seats, not even for it's leader, Afleitch, who has been described as a "reformer," and has advocated ideas such as a universial parliament, and a constitution, the latter of which he will continue to advocate.

Leinad has been a polarizing figure, receiving both praise and contempt for a tendency to not accept informal consensuses, instead preferring to take time to look at other ideas and put it to a vote. He's also vehemently opposed the attempt to place a ban on holding offices simultaneously in South America and Atlasia, which he has called "mutually assured destruction." He's sometimes a tad sensational.

In a press conference in his hometown of Bogota, Colombia, Leinad said this: "you may continue to have Leinad to kick around, because ladies and gentlemen, I'll probably have more press conferences!" He also said "I will continue to campaign for individual liberty, responsible government, freedom of officeholding, and a basic constitution for South America." Continuing to state: "I will continue to chair La Sociedad de la Libertad, and I will also probably make a newspaper."

The Cronica Sudamericana can report that he did, indeed, make a newspaper.

NEWSPAPER IN SOUTH AMERICA!
DEFEATED EX-MPP DECIDES TO TAKE UP REPORTING

Bogota, Colombia, South America--With his election defeat, one might think Leinad, a controversial Member of the dissolved Provisional Parliament, would take a break from South American politics until the next election. But actually, he's created a newspaper for the nation: the Cronica Sudamericana. As you would expect, it has a political focus, although might include segments about sports, entertainment, and travel to different areas around the new nation.

"I want this to be a reliable source of news for South America," said Leinad. "It will have editorials, and perhaps cover more topics, but at it's core I want it to be a place where people can find out what's going on in South American politics."

Cronica Sudamericana FAQ

(Well, none of these questions have been asked, but they might be asked. I guess it's a "could possibly be asked questions," although "FAQ" makes more sense than "CPBAQ," which would just be confusing.)

Q: Could I contribute? A: Of course! Just PM me (Leinad) with an article. I reserve rights, as editor, to clean up the grammar and, if it's bad, make it slightly less bad, but I'll notify you about any changes before posting, and give you credit.

Q: I want you to use [person] as pictures of me, could you do that? A: Sure! Tell me who you would like to represent you in pictures, and I'll use them. I used David Cameron for Potus, but I could change that if he wants me to. I just refuse to use a picture of someone with a colored state/country on their head, it looks tacky--not to mention Oakvale would look really weird.

Q: You made a terrible article, could you fix it? A: If I made an error, or just had tacky writing, you could let me know (either publically or privately) and I'll probably fix it. Sometimes I read through things I posted on the internet a day or so later, and realize it sounds stupid or incoherent, or I literally forgot a sentence I meant to write. I take measures to make sure this happens less, but no one is perfect.

Q: Will there be political cartoons in Cronica Sudamericana? A: Probably, but I can make no guarantees of quality.

Q: Will there be interviews in Cronica Sudamericana? A: Hopefully. If you'd like to be interviewed, PM me (Leinad), although I'll be asking for interviews myself often enough.

Q: How come some stuff is in Spanish but most of it is in English? A: I don't speak Spanish, but I think this should be as genuine as possible, and thus have given my newspaper and libertarian organization/think-tank Spanish names, not to mention my push to name the country "Sudamerica." (Thanks to Lumine, by the way, for help with Cronica's name!)

DONE DEAL!
SOURCE: CONSERVATIVE-SOCIAL LIBERAL COALITION FINALIZED!

Cochamba, Bolivia, South America--According to an anonymous source, the Conservatives and Social Liberals have, as expected, "agreed a program for government and will form a coalition government."

In the recent election, the Tories won an impressive 8 of 21 seats, with the other major parties--the Social Liberals and the Socialists--each winning 5 seats, the Worker's Party winning 2 seats and the Pioneers winning the other.

Looking at pre-election polls, it seemed that a coalition (be it formal or informal) would be unavoidable, and it was likely to include the relatively centrist Social Liberals alongside either the right-of-center Conservatives or left-of-center Socialists. Given that 11 seats are needed to form a majority, the latter option would require support of the far-left Worker's Party--an option that the Cronica Sudamericana has no reason to believe was even entertained.

Barring an unexpected turn of events, Interim President Hashemite will appoint Conservative MP Potus as the nation's first Prime Minister, presumably in the coming days. It will be fascinating to see what exactly is in their government program, and what issues the Parliament decides to tackle in it's beginning days--with many details on how the nation will be ran currently undecided, there's certainly an array of important matters at hand. Stay tuned.

You're welcome, and thanks! A newspaper is, indeed, a great way to make the South American experience better for all involved. I'd like to see other clever ways people might have to retain interest in the game.

INTERVIEW WITH PRIME MINISTER
POTUS ANSWERS OUR QUESTIONS AND STUFF
Potus, the recently appointed Prime Minister, sat down for an interview with the Cronica Sudamericana

Recently, Leinad of the Cronica Sudamericana sat down with the Conservative Prime Minister, Potus. The editor, who is also Leinad, was away for multiple weeks searching for Eldorado. He actually never left Bogata, although he was able to find a shiny coin by the side of the road. Anyway, that is the excuse reason why this newspaper has been late.

Leinad: What are some of the key issues the new government will look to tackle right out of the gate?

Potus: Our Government is going to be responsible for providing the leadership necessary to secure this nation's future. We were elected with a powerful mandate from the people to be responsible, solid, and strong, not to allow our nation to be crippled by a government of tail chasing leftists.

L: Much has been made of apparent "legalism" in Atlasia. What do you make of this? Will you specifically try to avoid such behavior, or just carry on as you see fit without worrying about that?

P: Well, Leinad, you have to look at what did Atlasia in. The game was at its prime when it was a battle of ideas, relationships, and personality. My entire career in Atlasia was spent hearing stories from the veterans how great past elections had been. The only time my Atlasian experience was anywhere near that interesting was during the DemPGH administration. The incredible stench of death surrounding the White House was dreadful, but exciting. The game resumed its decline shortly after a period of excitement.

Atlasia has lost its value because it was no longer fun to endlessly debate the t-bars and the iotas of TNF's latest effort to destroy freedom. It wasn't fun to watch the center-left, which became the Atlasian center-right, attempt to "moderate" a bill that forced the election of corporate boards. The Right became an even larger joke when the most visible figure on the Right, Yankee, voted "Reluctant Nay" on a bill to nationalize the energy industry.

All of those this stemmed from the narrowness of Atlasian conversation. That conversation was dominated by wannabe legalspeak, which had the effect of destroying meaningful conversation and ideas. South America will be different.

L: Was there any difficulty reaching an agreement with the Social Liberals on the coalition government, or were the terms settled fairly quickly?

P: The hardest lesson to learn in politics is that most of the time, that which brings you together is greater than what tears you apart. Our Government negotiations were healthy, productive, and swift.

L: Recently, not-MP Afleitch has created the "Armed Forces of South America." What is your opinion on this?

P: I'm glad citizens are getting involved in the game in creative ways, but the Government will be looking to officially organize our national defense in Parliament, at which point there will be a conversation over afleitch's antics.

Potus then abruptly got up from his seat and exited the room.

The Prime Minister hasn't minced words--calling out Provisional Parliament Speaker and now MP TNF (Workers), non-citizen North Carolina Yankee, and the general left-of-center folk as "tail-chasing." Critics could consider this too divisive of language for a Head of Government, although supporters could consider a major politician speaking honestly as a refreshing change from general political dialogue.

UNKNOWN TORY MP TO STEP DOWN!
REPORTEDLY DUE TO ACTIVITIES FROM OTHER MPs IN ATLASIA

According to a tip from an anonymous Conservative MP, another MP of the governing party (not the source) is going to resign from government and parliament, apparently protesting the actions of Deputy Prime Minister Talleyrand (Social Liberal) and Registrar General Turkisblau (Worker's) in Atlasia.

Recently Talleyrand re-registered in Atlasia, our neighbors to the North, specifically in the Southern region (probably due to that region's excellent Governor). His most prominent action was bringing a controversial lawsuit on Atlasian citizen, their Registrar General, Adam Griffin. Both Talleyrand and Turkisblau have been heavily criticized by many Atlasians for their actions.

This reporter is trying to stay unbiased. This reporter is having a hard time with that.

SPEAKER TO ADDRESS ATLASIAN SENATE
BARNES TO CONTROVERSIALLY SPEAK AT NYMAN ON THURSDAY

South American Speaker Barnes (Social Liberal) will address the Atlasian Senate at Nyman, D.C. on Thursday.

Several high-ranking Atlasians, such as Senators Kalwejt, PiT, and Lumine, the latter of which was also a former President, are boycotting the speech, noting "recent actions from some of the Mock Parliaments highest officials." While other prominent critics of some South Americans' actions, Speaker Classic Conservative and Governor Leinad, have been more welcoming. President Bore, who controversially issued an executive order to recognize South America, has also positively welcomed the upcoming speech.

ATLASIAN SPEAKER ADDRESSES PARLIAMENT
CRIS TALKS OF PEACEFUL CO-EXISTENCE, DIPLOMACY

Earlier today, Atlasian Senate Speaker Cris, a member of the center-right Civic Renewal Party, and a candidate for the Atlasian Presidency, addressed the South American Parliament.

Here are some highlights:

"It's not a mystery that there are anti-Atlasians sentiments in South America, as there are anti-South American sentiments in Atlasia. But we can change that via starting a new process, that'll be the focus of my speech."

"Atlasia should let you to play your game and South America should let us to play our game."

"I have a lot of respect toward your game. It's a different game than Atlasia...And I think that it's not a bad thing. Having different games on which people can play it's not a bad thing."

"South America it's a different game than Atlasia, but this doesn't mean that people can't play in both games. There are already a lot of people playing both games. I think we should let this tradition of having people playing both games forward."

"Really, there isn't valid reason why both nations can't exist in peace and harmony, and establish good diplomatic relationship with one another."

"Now, both our countries can handle foreign politics with an existing, a playable country. This is an historic possibility and we should seize the opportunities of this situation."

"It's like a wall to be built. My visit and my address are a small brick and the visit and address of Speaker Barnes to the Atlasian Senate will be another small brick. Let's build this wall together."

The drama of the two countries, their interactions, and the interactions of their citizens has been building up ever since South America was founded. Some people have been welcoming to relations, others skeptical, others flat-out hostile, on both sides. Cris is clearly attempting to bring the two nations together, to go above the skepticism and hostility for a better future.

As much as some of us may have doubts, ill-will, or unpleasant history with the other country, I think that's a message we should all get behind.
