$16 million has been spent by the campaigns and their allied Super PACs on TV ads so far, as compared to $2 million at this point in 2011 (granted, there were fewer candidates back then, and only one party’s nomination was contested).  Here is a breakdown:

Team Rubio has spent $2.6 million on national cable, but most of the others are focusing on Iowa and New Hampshire.

Man, Kasich is really dumping money into New Hampshire.  Is this sustainable?

Jeb! and Trump haven't spent much yet.  The two of them could spend most of the field into the ground.

Bush set to do a $500,000 ad buy in New Hampshire:

Again, the amounts here are pretty small compared to what these candidates (and their PACs) have raised.  The ad wars have barely begun.

Holy cow, Kasich has established a base.

So, what does this show us?

One can run as far left as they like if they form a Super-PAC five months beforehand and spend $3,000,000?

I find it incredible Jeb's team allowed Kasich to get an early foothold in NH.

Paul will spend $10,000 to run a TV ad during the CNN debate:

Wait, running a national ad during the debate will only cost $10,000?  No, actually, the ad will only air in IA and NH.

They probably underestimated his ability and the polling power of ads.
