And it looks like she's getting a pass, as most non-Some Dudish Republicans don't seem interested.

2014 Nominee Dennis Richardson might run again (he lost by only 6 points), and it's also possible that Brown will get a challenger in the democratic primary.

Brown is, of course, solid favorite now. Though Republicans, undoubtely, will try to paint a very liberal Brown as "too liberal even for liberal Oregon". How successfull they will be? In 2016, with typical Presidential year turnout (bigger and, relatively, less white) - unlikely. In 2018 (with opposite features) - possible. But they will need "non-scary" canndidate without baggage, able to win solid majority of Indies, and, at least, some Democrats. This is a big rarity in the state of late...

Unless she has a scandal worse than Kitzhaber's, she has this in the bag.

Also this will be the first election with the new voter registration law.

Is this going to change something? Any studies?

OR has no republican party. It's beyond dead.  Unless it's northern neighbor, who has nominated some decent candidates in statewide races, OR has absolutely nobody in the GOP pipeline.

It should increase turnout, which one would assume more Democrats voting.

Going by numbers alone, the state legislature shows that the Oregon GOP seems to still have some life left in it, with Democrats only holding narrow majorities in both chambers:

Senate

Democrats: 18
Republicans: 12

House

Democrats: 35
Republicans: 25

The GOP need only take four seats in the Senate, and six in the House, and they would control the legislature.

Completely off-topic, but I realized that both Oregon and California have 'Browns' as governors.

The 1994 Democratic nominee for California governor was Jerry's sister Kathleen Brown. That's a pretty similar name to Kate Brown.

Wow, I knew the Democrats loved minorities, but surely having two Brown governors is PC gone mad!
