And now a party political broadcast on behalf of the Social Liberals...

Just a few short months ago, South Americans from all stripes of life, from every background, political persuasion, and sense of self and identity came together to build a new future for our nations and our peoples.

The general election in August showed a massive exercise in democracy and the success of the South American project.  In the aftermath of the election, the Social Liberals took immediate action to ensure that this country had a strong, stable first government to develop its democratic and constitutional institutions.

We entered the Government with strength and confidence and commanded a equal footing at the decision table.

It was Talleyrand, our Leader, who showed the strength of our party and ensured that the Government was a composed of an equal number of Tories and SocLibs.

It was SJoyce, our Deputy Leader, who developed the beginning of relations with Altasia.

It was the Social Liberals who developed sweeping environmental protections for our natural heritage.

It was the Social Liberals who instituted a progressive and effective cap and trade system to reduce our carbon emissions.

We stuck to our principles, and we held the Tories in line.  We have shown our capacity to lead.

But there is much more that can and should be done.  We must establish a universal, national health care system that allows for the protection of the sick and weak in society, and protects our middle class from exorbitant prices and charges.  We must have a radical reform of the education system that sees an emphasis places on social mobility and the trans-formative power of education for society.  We must institute a sweeping social security network to ensure the well-being and livelihood of our peoples.

And most fundamental of all, we must lead the charge of sustainable economic growth and progress.  By combating rampant inflation, price increases, and unsustainable levels of unemployment we can transform this continent.

All of this can and will be done if the Social Liberals are returned to form government.  Our party has demonstrated our capacity and ability to lead, and we have a strong, comprehensive program for the future of South America.

On November 5th, look at your choices on the ballot paper: unbridled conservatism or unbridled socialism.  Neither philosophies hold a plan for the future.  Instead, turn to the radical center; turn to a party with the will to fight and a plan that can work.

Vote for the Social Liberals.

Statement on the election results

Now that the election results have been declared, it is clear that the Prime Minister and the Conservatives have won a very handsome victory.  On behalf of our leader, Talleyrand, and the Social Liberals, I would like to congratulate him and his party.

The election results reconfirmed the status of the Social Liberals as the leading alternative to the Conservatives in this country as we received both the second largest number of votes and seats -- tying with the Socialists.

In response to this confidence placed in us, we have determined to not renew our coalition agreement with the Conservatives.  the Prime Minister has now been tasked by the President to form a minority government, and the Social Liberals will be moving to the opposition benches.

Our parliamentary caucus will offer a bold and dynamic alternative to the Tories.  We will not use our position to score political points and cheap shots; rather, we will ensure that meaningful and progressive legislation is passed by the Parliament for the betterment of all of South Americans.

I would like to again thank every one of our members, candidates, and supporters.  We defied every poll and pundit and scored a fantastic result to continue fighting for you, your rights, and your future.

We will not let you down.

X Barnes
Chairman of the Social Liberals
