The first ballot of the Electoral Council resulted in a deadlock, with no candidate claiming the necessary 24 votes to be elected President of the Commonwealth of North America. Per the conditions of the Commonwealth Charter, the Council will now conduct a second ballot between the two front-runners: Congressman Miguel Hidalgo of Mexico and Congressman Alexander Hamilton of New York. Both men are supported by the pro-Franklin "Continental" party, and as such can be expected to continue the incumbent president's policies; as such, the balloting is expected to break along Regional lines, with Hamilton winning the support of Northern provinces and Hidalgo the South.

The choice is yours - the winner gets the presidency and the looser becomes VP. Two days.

The Election of 1788

Miguel Hidalgo [Continental-Mexico]—25 Electors
Alexander Hamilton [Continental-New York]—21 Electors

Miguel Hidalgo was just four votes away from a majority at the end of the first ballot, and the results of the second left him with just enough votes to claim victory in the North American Commonwealth's second-ever presidential election. While New York Congressman Alexander Hamilton won the grudging support of the slave states, who objected to Hidalgo's support for emancipation, as well as most of New England's electors, Hidalgo's popularity with Catholics and Americans of the Mid-Atlantic region allowed him to claim 25 of the 46 electoral votes.

Hidalgo is the green and Hamilton the brown, right? Neato. I'm glad Hidalgo won, it'll be an interesting term with him as Commonwealth president.

Actually, the map reflects the status of territories under the control of the Commonwealth, not the results of the election. Green indicates a self-governing Province (the equivalent of US States) and brown indicates nonvoting territories.

Ah, gotcha. Thanks, that makes more sense. I was wondering about that when you were saying that Hidalgo lost the South. So the Commonwealth doesn't own Alaska, Western Canada, and the Pacific Northwest overall, right?
