Why are Starbucks's new red cups even controversial? Red is festive enough for the season, though they could've thrown in some green cups for good measure.

The people kvetching should take solace in the fact that the cups don't say "Happy Holidays".

But the War on Christmas is real. Would Sarah Palin ever lie?

I've always thought that she was a little nuts.

I wonder how much money Starbucks paid that obnoxious Kevin James lookalike for this viral marketing campaign?

Didn't King say that there were some customised stickers they ended up cancelling? I don't get the big deal, anyway. It's not like they got rid of the Baby Jesus, Wise Men, etc. There were snowflakes and stars. Hardly Christmas-exclusive.

I drink it 5 days a week and really hadn't noticed it was just plain red.

In the immortal words of Shirley Cain - "who care".

Don't you mean Paul Blart: Starbucks Patron?

I wonder how much money Starbucks paid that obnoxious Kevin James lookalike for this viral marketing campaign?

That's getting into crazy territory.

Anyway, I remember watching The Nightly Show and one of the panelists was talking about how Starbucks didn't bother making special cups for Thanksgiving back in November.

Is it?  You do understand that social media celebrities often make posts incorporating product placements?  A friend of mine has a few dozen thousand followers on Instagram, and just got paid $600 for posting about how much he enjoys using some brand of wet wipe or whatever.

Btw, thanks for reviving this subject a month after people had already stopped talking about it.

Personally, I'm a fan of the red cups. It's easy to pick out the people at work who are self-indulgent enough to get drive-through coffee every morning.

Ouch!

I wouldn't know.  As I said in the "where do you get your coffee" thread, I brew my own.  When I do buy cups of coffee, I buy it from places where they make good coffee.

A festive cup (or lack thereof) is not going to hide the fact that their coffee doesn't taste particularly good, so as far as I'm concerned, there's really no controversy.

I liked the red cups with the white lids. I stopped a couple times when the local coffeehouse was closed and thought, "It's a red cup. Some idiot made the news complaining about it. Wow."
