Note that Ted Cruz does not support this.

Such an idea is the idea of lunatics.  Cruz understands that the reality of a Constitutional Convention is that ideas beyond the pale could well be enacted as Amendments, pending approval by State Legislatures.

I fully support this, only because a madcap convention would increase the chance of some crazy poison pill amendment into the new constitution that immediately causes the Union to collapse and Britain to take its rightful place as most powerful Anglo country Smiley
