He was right wing o/c but not nuts

he got 1.1 million votes in 72'  and this was his 3 point platform:

One, in foreign affairs, we should always treat our friends better than our enemies.
Two, never go to war unless you plan on winning.
Three, domestically, those who work ought to live better than those who won't.

John Scmitz had this to say on Nixon's China Visit," I had no problem with Nixon visiting China, I had a problem with him coming back."

He did some radio announcements. My grandfather voted for Wallace in 1968 and Scmitz in 1972. He gave me a flyer of Schmitz in 1972.

Schmitz did get over a million votes in 1972.

If he was a racist it didn't get a lot of play at the time since he was from California. If he had been from (pick one) Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, Louisiana etc. probably a different story. He took enough heat for his John Birch affiliation as I recall.

true
But he was born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin and move to CA in his 20's

He was so right-wing that he got kicked out of the John Birch Society for being too conservative.

Imagine someone being too right-wing for even the John Birch Society!
