We have a poll. Smiley

Good for Cruz.

How reliable are Field polls usually?

Trump is at 40% nationwide and 23% in California. Don't think so.

Terrible news for TRUMP; if this poll is accurate then it's likely that Cruz's lead has expanded from just a few states to possibly soon near-nationwide.

They're the gold standard of California polls.

The larger proportion of Hispanics in California compared to the nation may account for much of the difference.

I'm probably just missing it, but where is the poll itself? All that link sends me to is a short article about it's results, but not the actual poll with more specific numbers.

It's not on the Field website yet.

Ok, thanks... I assume that the specifics of the poll will be posted here when they come out.

California polls tend to be like the national polls. All last year the Field polls had same leaders as national polls, albeit the percents are lower due to more undecideds.  It's possible Cruz' surge has continued through the holidays.

Here, it says that the poll was of 1,003 registered voters and that 325 were registered Republicans who were likely to vote in the primary. That would imply that the remaining 700 were independents and/or Democrats, but sadly, I cannot find a link to the actual poll results on the Field website or elsewhere.

I live here.  They are marginal.  In a general election they have a Dem slat.

When I first saw this, I thought it was a general election poll, and I was like OMG STATESPOLL WAS RIGHT

Anyway, although the race is very close, this is very bad news for Trump. Quite a lot of undecideds, though.

What an interesting poll. We'll have to see if Cruz's lead in Iowa holds.

I disagree with that.  This is the fourth poll of California since August (the other three being another Field poll, USC/LA Times, and USC/LA Times/SurveyMonkey).  Those other three all had Trump leading by between 1 and 6 points.  That's a much narrower lead than he had nationally at the time.  I think it's always been a relatively weak state for him.  Other polls also show Trump comparatively weak in the West, and of course California is a pretty big chunk of the West.

This. But also who cares? It's one of the last primaries in the nation, so unless it's still going on by then, it doesn't really matter.

If the nomination is in doubt by the time California votes, it will have been a very good primary season!

S*** poll (Carson in 4th place, 41% undecided LOL). Then again the Golden State's GOP seems to be full of low-energy losers considering how badly they've crashed and burned in the past decade so they probably are not worthy to support TRUMP.

There aren’t 41% undecided in the poll.  With Cruz at 25%, Trump at 23%, and Rubio at 13%, that’s 61% just for those three candidates alone.  How could there still be 41% undecided?
