The Lt. Gov. office serves little role in our democracy. Especially in our currently inactive region, I think this just provides an annoying vacancy in the census boards.

Mr. Speaker, if I may intrude for a moment:

I have long favored the abolition of the Lt. Governorship, and I am happy to see that Governor Never Again has taken the appropriate steps to purge this useless and neglected office from the books. The fact of the matter is that there is no practical purpose served by this position today that justifies its continued existence in an age of reduced activity and bloated governments. Under the Mideast Constitution, the Lt. Governor has but two duties: to break ties in the Assembly and to ascend to the governorship in the event of a vacancy. As this amendment demonstrates, these responsibilities could be easily assumed by other members of the Regional government without overburdening those officers or weakening the separation of powers. There is no reason to waste the talents of an active public servant by consigning them to rot in a placeholder office, especially when we are so hard-pressed for active citizens.

If any further evidence is necessary to show that there is no interest either amongst the populace or within these halls of maintaining this position, I would remind the Assembly that this office has sat empty since August, and that our last Lt. Governor - Franzl - never swore in nor posted in Atlasia following his election this past May.

I PMed NeverAgain about some proposed changes to the amendment I want to make but never heard back from him. I'll try again and wait a day or two before introducing the changes myself.

I thought my responses sent? Huh. Anyways, I have been fervently hunting for the Constitution and so I tapped Senator Truman for help. You are welcome to post the changes that you seek and we can use the new information that we get hopefully from the Senator to make adjustments to it.

Before introducing the amendment, I'd like to once more apologize for the unnecessarily long wait.

The second and third sections of the Amendment correspond more closely to the actual text of the Constitution, which makes it much easier to compare and use in general.

Thoughts? I'd like to start a vote as quick as possible.

I approve of the Speaker's amendment and urge the Assembly to adopt it (and the amendment itself) with all due haste.

Not to nitpick, Mr. Speaker, but under the Mideast Assembly Rules Act it is suggested that final votes last 72 hours (or until all Representatives have voted).

I don't think you're still a member of the Assembly (your last term ended in January and you didn't run for reelection).

Sorry about the vote timing; I was unaware of the 72-hour rule.

Anyway, I'm pretty sure NeverAgain appointed Hatman back to his seat, so I think he's still in.

The bill has passed 2-1 and will now go to the Governor's desk.

I actually appointed New Canadaland to the slot, which I hope isn't a mistake due to is in activity. Let me take this to my office.

No worries - I only remember because I helped write that law. In any event, I'm glad to see that this measure has passed the Assembly and now heads to the people for ratification!
