The only truly bad people I can think of are Jefferson, Lincoln, LBJ, and Nixon.  That doesn't mean that they didn't do good things as president/weren't good presidents.  You can argue that Clinton and Kennedy were bad people for cheating on their wives but certainly were/would have been good presidents.

I think Lincoln certainly had the most trying circumstances to deal with, with FDR being a close second.

As for the worst Presidents... I really don't think we've had 10 'bad' Presidents.  We've had Presidents that I disagree with (FDR, LBJ), but they were still good leaders in their own right and I can find things that I respect about them.

Is it "I disagree with them so I hate them" or is it because these men really were "bad". In my opnion the sleeze bags like JFK, Clinton, LBJ, and Harding were "bad people". Manical men like Nixon were "bad" guys. Guys like Ike, Hayes, McKinley, Garfeild, Hoover, and Reagan were all good guys who had integrity. We may be forgetting wha we may classify as "bad".

Actually, I had a hard time coming up with ten "bad People."  Consider Carter, for example.  IMO he was fairly worthless as a president, but he was not a bad person, just an unfit president.  And consider Arthur.  I've always liked him as president.  He's no Washington, but I think he did a decent job as president.  He was a crook before the 1880 election, however, so I put him on the list.  I had a hard time coming up with ten for this list, and included Coolidge because he was a bit of a sourpuss.  He wasn't that bad, and maybe Pierce should be there instead.

He was a racist. He beleived that Anglo-Saxons should have control over the World and that any other race was below it. He loved to insult the Irish as well.

But a lot of Americans had these views for years. Explains why the KKK had over 4 million members in 1924.

Why does that make him a bad person? James K. Polk was our hardest-working President. He reported met with anyone concerned, staying up late into the night to consider different ideas. Upon being elected he chose to run for only one term; if he did not accomplish his four goals, he was not worthy of re-election, and if he did accomplish them - which was the case - the country would not need him. 103 days after leaving office he died from exhaustion.

Polk was our only President to seriously keep all of his campaign promises and probably the President who loved his wife the most. Imperialist or not, those are the markings of a good person. We could use more leaders like James K. Polk.

So that makes him a bed person? I think that is extremely offensive. When people say he is a bad person because he killed millions of innocent people, I think they are mentally disadvantaged, but to judge someone because they were an alcoholic? I was an alcoholic; does that make me a bad person? Does it make me or him a bad person because our fathers are successful people? That was a partisan pick; it would be no different than me saying Clinton was a Pot Smoking Poor kid. Neither man should be deemed a bad person because of there families financial situation, or there past indiscretions.

Any list would have to include James Buchanan and Franklin Pierce.  They practically sat there and watched the nation tear itself apart towards war.  Neither offered any real alternatives (Heck, Pierce sponsored a group of Southerners who wanted to colonize Cuba), and neither has any real accomplishments. 

Grant was a good military leader, but he was a lousy president.  Presidential corruption reached its peak in the 19th century during his administration.  Can you say Credit Mobilier?

In the 20th century, Nixon might be called out for the Watergate scandal, but he wasn't a bad president in the sense that  he actually got stuff done in office,  such as creating the EPA and opening up trade with China (a MAJOR foreign policy initiative). 

Harding was a worthless president.  The economy did well, under him, but he pretty much let his cabinet run things.  He had the Teapot Dome oil scandal as well.

I just love the responses that list America's worst presidents as only the most recent. That's pretty damned ignorant.

As far as people psychologically unfit for the presidency -- my definition of "evil" -- the list would be:

Andrew Jackson
Theodore Roosevelt
Woodrow Wilson
LBJ
Richard Nixon

Now, if you include the crooked and the ineffectual, but not necessarily deranged, like the five I mentioned before, the list would be a touch longer (I neglect those who died immediately in office):

Carter

This makes up my ten worst, although Franklin Pierce and G H W Bush deserve dishonorable mentions

I've seen it, but I thought he later wrote in the 1890s as a Princeton professor that he didn't actually take that seriously, like it was a phase he was going through or something.  Anyway, I was judging the presidents by their administrations, not their mental state.
