In a series of hypothetical matchups, registered voters favored Democratic U.S. Sen. Charles Schumer over incumbent Republican Gov. George Pataki 51 percent to 39 percent if the 2006 governor's race were held now. They favored Democratic state Attorney General Eliot Spitzer over Pataki 47 percent to 42 percent.

Surveyed voters preferred Giuliani over Schumer for governor by 56 percent to 36 percent. They favored the ex-mayor over Spitzer 59 percent to 34 percent.

I suspect Rudy's got his eye on Hillary's senate seat.

I don't think anybody will be following in Rockefeller's four-term footsteps anytime soon. When Cuomo tried, it was Pataki who beat him. There's a general sense that Pataki shouldn't quit while he's ahead.

The talk is that Pataki wants to run against Hillary. Think of the storyline -- can the man who took down Mario Cuomo take down Hillary Clinton? George "The Giant Killer" Pataki!

There is a modify button on the top to edit post. Smiley

O, and - I think Hillary would beat Pataki if he tried to run for the seat. But Rudy - that is another story.

Oh. I didn't see an "Edit" and I'm apparently incapable of understanding that "Modify" means the same thing. Smiley

Hah, thanks.

Back in 2000 Rudy didn’t run against Hillary in the end for two reasons 1.) Health and 2.) He was losing significant ground to her… in short Rudy might well have lost in 2000… that said I think that a race against Hillary would be very competitive and would be in no way a “slam dunk” for Rudy… against Spitzer for Governor ( I doubt that Pataki will tempt fate and run for re-election in 2006) Rudy would also be faced with a tough competitive battle… so I don’t see Giuliani a “silver bullet” for the GOP at either the National or State wide level…

He didn't run last time because he developed cancer!  It had nothing to do with polling numbers.

Your right but sorry to say it, things where not looking good for Rudy in 2000, polling was suggesting that he would lose to Hillary as he began to slip on a range of issues... that was the biggest reason why he exited the race...

Is that because you want him to lose, or you like Pataki?

Yes, being Vice President (won't get elected for that to happen) will take up a lot of her time.
