Communist and former Terrorist group comprised of fools who can't govern a nation that has turned an otherwise decent nation into a monumental sh!thole.

What the hell is an anc?

Walter, you're probably getting sick of me saying this all the time, but please use capital letters for things that actually ought to be capitalized.  It makes for far easier reading. Smiley

Obviously freedom fighters, though they are now subverted/bought by the white owners.

Not to condone apartheid, but, were blacks immigrating to or from South Africa during the Afrikaner rule?

It seems to me they were voting with their feet.

that doesn't say much about the quality of apartehid rather than the quality of the rest of Africa. The fact that apartheid was better than Idi Amin or Robert Mugabe isn't saying much.

To compare, now Rwandan refugees are leaving the South Africa because the crime rate is too high.

I found the crime stats on South Africa: http://www.nationmaster.com/red/country/sf/Crime&b_cite=1

While these are pretty bad , they're about the same as that of your typical American inner city. I doubt it's higher than the neighborhood in northside Minneapolis where one of my friends lives, and he has no problem at all living there. The numbers are also much lower than Camden.

One. Bloody Marxists, who now in government are just incompetent, with no ideolog that they will ever do anything much about.

Mandela's not the hero, it's Tutu. He practically single handedly stopped a civil war before the end of apartheid and large-scale retributions after.

Well, that would've been cathartic...  may have to happen in the long run anyway.

I agree that Tutu (as well as De Klerk) usually don't get the credit they deserve. Even though I like Mandela, the country could do a hell of a lot better than that clown Mbeki. Hopefully his replacement is far superior.

I generally agree with you, but you guys need to get of Mandela's back. The ANC with Mandela ended a terrible reactionary and racist system.

I've actually met someone who was jailed for being in the ANC, back in the 1960's.  He was very reasonable and I rather liked and respected him.

Based on that, the lack of retribution when they took power, and that they basically renounced communism in the 1980's, I currently have a favorable opinion of them.
