The second amendment of the United States Constitution states:

“A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.” Obviously, the need for a state militia has been replaced by the National Guard and Coast Guard, whereby trained military personnel are entrusted with the defense of this country against domestic enemies. Their weapons are tightly controlled and safeguarded.

The only two reasons for a citizen to own a firearm are for hunting or defense of the household from intruders. In either case, ownership of a handgun, shotgun or rifle is more than adequate to satisfy these purposes. There is absolutely no need for any U.S. civilian to own any weapon more powerful or sophisticated than these.

Accordingly, all handguns, shotguns and rifles must be licensed and registered to the degree necessary to match weapon to owner at the click of a computer key. Furthermore, we must guarantee that the mentally ill do not gain access to them under any circumstances. Finally, if we had prohibited the purchase of more sophisticated weapons, several innocent victims would not have died or been harmed at shopping malls, college campuses, Congressional meetings, churches and now concerts. We as a country must deal with this issue immediately lest our society fall back to the days when everyone carried a holster.

I don't think the Constitution clearly predicted the future, and now we have rapid-firing military weapons.

I wouldn't blame the Founding Fathers for thinking that we would have guns that didn't require you to not reload after one shot.

I am going to add a third. Invasion by a foreign military power to take over the USA and boot out Donald Trump.

If that is the case, and let's say it's China with 300,000 active people in their military with another 5 million in reserve.

And let's say 1-2 million Chinese rock up in California and invade the country.

Now USA has 270 million guns, and let's say 90% of US people cannot shoot straight. That still leaves you 27 million people against 2 million Chinese troops.

Assuming the US armed forces sit on their asses, which is the only way the Chinese could conceivably invade the US, then I think the PLA Air Forces have more than enough firepower to flatten our cities and bomb us back to the Stone Age.

Gun control is blatantly unconstitutional. All hand-held firearms should be legal, and states & municipalities should be forbidden from legislating against them.

agreed.  The problem is the ignorant people on the gun control side have no clue as to what "weapon more powerful or sophisticated than these" means in the real world.  Where you draw that line means everything and if past experience is any indicator, you guys are concerned with strange things like bayonet lugs, chainsaw attachments and "shoulder things that go up".
