Donald is fantasizing about killing people at Times Square all the time, torturing prisoners and killing innocent people simply because he thinks its morally right to kill innocent civilian people, including children. But as long as it's only Donald saying it, it gets a pass. The logic.

Not a defense of Beck.

But how is this really any different from the vile, offensive, and often times violent things Trump says? The guy openly encourages supporters to roughen up protestors at his events. He's openly pondered what the effect would be on his campaign were he to shoot someone.

While what Beck said was clearly wrong and disgusting, Trump himself has said things just as disgusting.

Based on the examples you provided, yes, it is different. Trump is a terrible person but what Beck said is fundamentally worse than that. When he said he could shoot someone in broad daylight and not lose supporters, he was just commenting on his gaffe armor. It doesn't mean anything, and frankly I've heard a lot of people in my lifetime use similar hyperbole to make a point.

Plus, coming from Beck, there is probably a 50-50 chance that he gets arrested sometime in the next year after approaching The Donald with a large knife.
