Welcome, Councilors!

Pertinent information on the operation of the Pacific Council

I'll open the floor for nominations for Speaker once Simfan swears in.

Also, I think we technically don't take office until noon on Friday, so let's not get ahead of ourselves (says the guy who made this thread Tongue).

Since Simfan has yet been to swear in although the session has (essentially) begun, I will formally open the floor for nominations for Speaker. If he swears in soon, he can still participate in the process.

EDIT: This is open for 24 hours from the original posting. Sorry if this inconveniences anyone, but I want to get things moving, and with three people it shouldn't be hard.

Nominations for Speaker are now closed. I don't know if Simfan can actually be nominated since he wasn't sworn in Tongue. What's the deal with that?

Since the Speaker must be a sitting Pacific Councilor, 1184AZ was the only eligible candidate nominated, and he is elected Speaker without opposition.

In case this wasn't already already clear, I genuinely look forward to making the legislative session, as brief as it will be, very productive. Congratulations.

I would like to contest the election of 1184AZ. The Rules of Order say nothing about a 24 hour nomination period. Considering it has been less than two days since this Council entered office, I would say this lacks proper form. The rules of order clearly specify a speaker must be elected by majority consent. No vote was ever held, thus majority consent was never reached.

Furthermore any motion must be debated for a minimum of 48 hours. This means this must be debated until noon today. Hence I will take the precautionary measure of accepting the nomination.

Come on. It was a weekend! Let's not put the cart before the horse here.

Considering that 1184AZ never reached majority support (one of two Councilors or one of three Councilors) and Simfan has now sworn in, I'm taking this to a vote. Councilors, indicate your preference:

[ ] 1184AZ
[ ] Simfan34

Councilors have 48 hours to vote.

This isn't a great time, but I've nominated Wulfric for Pacific Justice:

EXECUTIVE ORDER 5:
Under the authority vested in me as Governor, I hereby nominate former Councilor Wulfric for the office of Pacific Justice.

We can hold a hearing/vote once a Speaker is elected.

Simfan has been elected speaker 2-1 over 1184AZ. I'm tempted to give you time to change your votes, but since one of you nominated the other (totaling two votes) I don't see a point.

Congrats, Mr. Speaker!
