Politico did an article on VA Gov. Terry McAuliffe. It seems like he is gearing towards a 2020 run

After listening to the podcast, I came away feeling two things.
1) Jason Kander has an amazing sense of humor
2) He wants to run in 2020 and is looking for the right opening.
We could be at that time where you don't have to be noticeable (celebrity or high-level gov't position) to have a reasonable chance to win.

Yeah Kennedy doesn't have nearly enough exposure to be a candidate with a >50% chance of winning. A senate run or being vp nominee in 2020 would help a lot

I know I'm behind a day ln this, but Tim Ryan really seems serious about running. He never really denied it and said that running against Pelosi really helped him get out there.

Word in my circles is that Rand Paul is considering a challenge to Trump from the right on healthcare and that the chances of him doing so will significantly increase if the Senate bill passes without his vote.
Sorry if this is a stupid question, but by "challenge to Trump...on healthcare," do you mean being more vocal against Trump to fight the bill or running a full-fledged campaign against him in 2020?

Both Biden and Gillibrand were at OZY fest yesterday, and both were interviewed by Katie Couric, with questions about 2020:

I can’t find a word for word transcript of Couric’s interview with Gillibrand, but according to this, she deflected the question (which would be a reversal from her pretend “ruling it out” a couple of months ago):

Meanwhile, Rep. Suozzi opines on Cuomo and Gillibrand:

Anyone else feel like Jeff Flake is posturing, what with his book and anti-Trump op-ed?

Delaney's announcement seems to have kicked the 2020 Democratic primary race into high gear.  Tongue

They have to start early.

They can't wait too long if they want to contain-y the Delaney

Geez. That's a horrible thing to say. It's 100% not a winning strategy.

Willie Geist‏ @WillieGeist
NEW: Sources close to @JohnKasich tell me, after Charlottesville, there is growing sense of "moral imperative" to primary Trump in 2020.

Strongly considering switching my registration to Republican just to vote for Kasich in the primary.

Has begun seeking staff: Montana Gov. Steve Bullock, Sen. Chris Murphy (Conn.), Rep. Tim Ryan (Ohio)

> Wild cards: Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo

Any info/opinions about her?
I don't think so. She's not well-liked by her own state that much and hasn't put herself out there much.

I'm kind of interested in Warren as the nominee now. I don't know. I think she's a good match to take on the President one on one. She won't have to tip toe nearly as much as the 2016 nominee because all he can do is call her Pocahontas.
I think it helps to make her angry rhetoric more pallatable. Her allows her to tap into a softer warmer side that she'll desperately need to win. I think it'll help combat the sexism she'll be facing. I wasn't a big fan of her running despite liking her positions, but I might've changed my mind.

Oh yeah. She'll lose because the whole country is sexist
Not saying it'll be her only problem but it could easily knock off a few points from her.
It wont

Middle America is sexist. A plurality of America did vote for the most qualified candidate, regardless of genitals.

I assume you have proof.

This week’s #2020Vision column:

http://www.cnn.com/2017/09/08/politics/2020-vision-democrats-single-payer/index.html

Again, much of it has already been covered in this thread.  I feel like this line from Harris was already mentioned here, but I can’t find it, so I’ll quote it again:

Biden is the only Dem who could defeat Trump by over 20%. Just think about all the congressional seats that would inevitably come with that. If he doesn't run, he's making a huge mistake.

Here we go again with this. Centrist Dems cannot win. Even Obama got only +7% win with a total economic meltdown in 2008

He's not a centrist
