So why isn't Singh "catching fire", so to speak? He seems like an obvious front-runner for the NDP leadership, especially since he seems to have the charisma that the other candidates lack.

Oh, he is catching fire. Polling will not capture any of the new members Singh is picking up. You can tell he is doing well from his fundraising (which is probably a better marker for his support than any actual polling). Mainstreet's poll was done with membership lists (just for a few provinces), which were obtained dubiously and from big donors. Hence why I said "junk poll!"

Some Dippers here are very worried about Singh's faith being an obstacle. Dionne Labelle quoted on the record, Dusseault more optimistic. Sources claim that Quebec caucus are panicky & dunno what to do, some might not run again fearing they'll lose with him as leader. This reminds me of the DOOM MACHINE in the election's final laps.

Despite what that poll said, clearly this isn't over until Jagmeet Singhs.  (Sorry)

For anybody wondering, Ibrahim Bruno El Khoury failed to submit the necessary number of signatures before the deadline.  This same fate befell Walrus Magazine co-founder and editor David Berlin.

"For federal New Democrats, however, July 3 was also the deadline to join the race to replace Tom Mulcair, which means that, barring one or more drop-offs between now and September 17, there will be four names on the ballot presented for the consideration of card-carrying members: Charlie Angus, Niki Ashton, Guy Caron, and Jagmeet Singh.

(Two 11th-hour hopefuls, Montreal consultant Ibrahim Bruno El-Khoury and Walrus magazine co-founder David Berlin, filed their initial paperwork with Elections Canada but failed to collect the requisite signatures to finalize their nominations in time to make the cut. Veteran BC MP Peter Julian announced three days after the deadline that he would drop out of the race.)"

So, you're stuck with Guy Caron, Niki Ashton, Charlie Angus or Jagmeet Singh.  Personally, I heartily endorse Guy Caron.

Jagmeet just scored his first Quebec MP endorsement, a big one too, Hélène Laverdière. She was considered a high profile candidate in 2011 as a former diplomat, then known for defeating the BQ Leader Gilles Duceppe not once but twice.

It Looks like Jagmeet has another MP endorsement now, BC's Jenny Kwan, I can't see if this is official or not though? I only have the link from Jagmeet's team so...

Would have loved to see Nathan Cullen in the race, he's one of my favorite NDP MPs to watch in Parliament. However, I'm rooting for Niki Ashton to take it, she'd make an excellent leader. Will be interesting to see how Jagmeet Singh does.

Ex-MP Alain Giguère is disappointed the two front runners (perceived) Angus and Singh have handicap, one not speaking French with ease and the other practicing sikh, wearing turban and kirpan.

Difficult to know how many think like him but ideas include forming an independent caucus, unite in Anybody but Singh or just take a break from the party until the next leadership race.

If there is a perception (real or not) that Singh did not win because of his turban/religion, you can say goodbye to those suburban Toronto/Vancouver seats the NDP was eyeing.  It also wouldn't sit well with the urban (DT Van/TOR) Liberal yuppie types who tend to switch between NDP/Liberal.

I've finally decided to personally support Singh over Angus.  I grew up in Timmins, so this may be surprising, but I think Singh's policies align more with mine - a mix of socialist/libertarian/populist left.  I also like how he has been running a pretty positive campaign.  While Angus smears and yells "You're just like Liberals!!  You are a conservative" or uses the left-right spectrum to convince others how terrible someone is, most Canadians don't see politics that way (and by the way, most Canadians voted for one of those two parties for most of their lives, don't you want them to consider you?).  Angus doesn't seem to be open to new ideas.  Jagmeet talks about some kind of OAS reform, one that would take money from people earning Millions+ and give it to low income canadians, and Angus labels him immature, or a conservative.  Universality, while essential for certain programs (like Healthcare, Pharmacare, Tuition), would not have the same effect for OAS (essentially a source of Income).  Someone earning millions of dollars a year would probably not notice any effect if their OAS went down, and it's not like some sort of private OAS could pop up (like would happen with Healthcare or pharmacare).  Angus doesn't even want to talk about it, and that upsets me.  He is right and anyone who disagrees with him is labelled "far right".  No, Angus.  You are not our Bernie candidate.

Singh is the only one I can see taking seats off the Liberals. That's enough for him to get my support.

Caron just scored some major Northern Ontario support:

Howard Hampton, former Ontario NDP Leader (MPP for Kenora-Rainy River, federal 2015 Candidate in Kenora), and Shelley Martel, long time NDP MPP for Sudbury East then Nickel Belt (former Ontario Cabinet Minister)

This is why I support him too. Though I acknowledge his candidacy could be a risky proposition, but the NDP needs to throw a hail Mary right about now.

Agreed. Even if Singh leads to a drop in support in rural areas and Quebec, I can see him more than making up for it in Ivan and suburban areas.

And ironically, Angus is the only one I can see taking seats off the *Conservatives*.

I'd be more worried about the Liberals if I were an NDP supporter. Trudeau is really popular among promiscuous progressives. That's annoying for a Tory, but horrifying for a Dipper.
