How do you think the GOP won the VA House of Delegates in the first place in 2000 after decades out of power?

Ohhhh, I can't wait until Democrats gerrymander the living hell out of Virginia. Maybe they'll go on another 120-year run of complete control.

They could, sure. There is no VRA preclearance anymore. They did so for over a century before.

But I can think of ways to retaliate.

Complaining on a message board like you do with New Jersey?

All Mayoral races can be called:

Mayor - Atlantic City - General
21 of 21 Precincts Reporting - 100%
Name   Party   Votes   Vote %
Gilliam, Frank   Dem   2,486   48%
Guardian, Don (i)   GOP   2,407   47%
Polillo, Joseph   Ind   133   3%
Green, Henry   Grn   107   2%

That's all the people that voted in Atlantic City?  Everything dies, baby, that's a fact, and some things stay dead!

Nah. Congress and Jeff Sessions can simply block Virginia from gerrymandering with legislation, among other things. We won the elections and have the keys of federal power.

Didn't the U.S Supreme Court rule that midterm redistricting was legal when Texas did it in 2003?

You know what's interesting? It looks like Guadagno will take Somerset County, a county that went for Obama twice and Clinton last year. Along with this, she's outperformed Trump's performance.

So, really, I'm actually surprised this wasn't a harsher blow to her and the GOP.

Low turnout, lack of enthusiasm for Murphy.

There's still a hundred precincts outstanding, might change the result.

Clinton won by 14% & it is totally unrelated to downballot races & especially Gov races where opposite party can win & NJ had a 2 time GOP Gov.

It looks like Murphy is going to win by 14% odd, 12-14% was the polling result. Pretty good, Dems take NJ from the GOV & make big gains downballot. De Blasio also wins big in NY. Virginia was a very good performance.

In Virginia? No. Democrats pretty much control the whole state now. The rats jumped off the sinking GOP ship tonight.

Looks like Murphy might win Somerset county. Although I can't really tell I believe he won NJ-02 as well.

The election looks like what you would've expected a good election for Democrats to look like during the Bush era. Not a bad thing at all, especially since the legislative majorities are larger than they were in the 2000s. Expecting a margin of 20+ was a bit much, especially considering that would've been larger than 2008/2012, but it's a larger one than 2005/2006, so there's reason to feel good imo.

Turnout is probably going to be down to its lowest point in 20 years. Come on NJ, do better.

Two words: Low Turnout.

Lower turnout than the last 4 governors races.

This is an underwhelming performance, really. I thought Murphy would at least be able to pick off Morris County, but instead he lost it by 8. Plus he only barely picked up Somerset. Maybe he shouldn't have ran so far to the left, but whatever. Hopefully he governs like his true self, but we'll see.
