Do you think Bush dodged the draft? He got his daddy to get him into the Air National Guard, and then he proceeded to go AWOL from that for a year in the early 70s.... where was he? Smiley

Bush got assigned to another unit in AL, it has been well documented.  I can dig all that out for you if you want .  This is just a story from the internet conspiracy people.

Plus you don't go AWOL in the reserves or guard.  Doesn't happen, that is only on active duty.

Plus you need 50 points to make a good year and Bush always had that and was discharged honorably.

Whether he went AWOL or not is another matter. But why did his daddy make SURE he got into the Texas Air National Guard? Why couldn't he just went into the U.S. Air Force and go to Vietnam? Which he probably would have if it weren't for the strings his daddy pulled.

A lot of kids of well to dos had the same privilige. In fact, a whole slew of well known politicians back then used their positions for leverage.

Is it better to serve at all or dodge completely like Dean?

Exactly right Christopher.  You can make the same claim for many politicians or children of privilege and their daddies.  Contrary to what Dems will have you believe, Republicans do not have a monopoly on privilige, "daddies", or draft dodging politicians.  Clinton, Kennedy come to immediate mind.

Clinton and Kennedy. Get your facts straight. Clinton was OPPOSED to the Vietnam War, and Bush was for it. If you are opposed to a war, you get a pass. And John F. Kennedy served in a PT Boat in WWII. And Ted Kennedy served in the Army during the early 50s. Get your facts straight, as I said above.

If you are opposed to the war you get a pass?  what is that!!!  Just means you were wrong in the first place and also a draft dodger.

Ask a vet if they think they get a pass.

If you're opposed to the War, you get a pass? If the draft were to be imposed today, like Charles Rengal, D-NY wants, no passes would be given. It was a crime to burn your draft papers. Please explain what on earth you were talking about!

There is a an obvious moral difference in saying "I don't want anyone to fight in this war" and "I want othre people to fight this war". Or that's my opinion anyway.

The more the better.  While Dems are running around trying to find themselves GOP has been registering people behind the scenes and raising money also.
