i was sad to see chuck hagel mention a possibility of a draft.  fortunately, i beleive he wasnt serious.  he just wanted to get his name in the papers, being the little john mccain that he is.

the military draft is a horrible idea.  it was a failure.  the all volunteer 'professional' army has been a huge success.  now, im not saying we wouldnt ever need a draft again, but it should be reserved for absolute EMERGENCIES.

disclaimer:  im too old to get drafted, so im not making this post out of self-interest.

When you say emergency? What do you mean by it?

Personally, an emergency for me is if the United States was attacked on our own soil. In other words, I would be for the draft if our land was attacked. Personally, I don't think we would need a draft for such an extreme situation.

I am against using any draft to send anyone overseas. But when it comes to defense, that is another story.

We don't need a draft, we need to allow our exsist troops to kill our enemies, 'collateral damage' be damned.

by emergency, i mean a very extreme situation.

most 'draft advocates' are using 'fairness' as a reason to reinstitute the draft.  that is funny because the vietnam era draft was anything but 'fair',

according to the selective service web site, age 25 would be the cut off.  the draft lottery would begin with 20 year olds..
