I don't know. If I had money I would fly you to Disney World. I have a strong feeling Hillary will be in it big time.

I like Hillary.  She has nothing to gain from running as VP.  There's no way to raise her profile any more than it already is.  Do you really think she wants to be VP?  I'm more willing to bet she has an interest in being President.

Yes, but if she runs for VP and Kerry somehow remotely should win this thing, then should would be up for President on '12.

But if she is VP and he loses it is a shot to her political power.  Regardless of whether Kerry wins or loses she's in line to be the next Democratic candidate.  Only John Edwards as VP could stop her.

I agree w/that somewhat. But I also believe that if Kerry doesn't have Clinton support he is dead in the water.

ben, funny you should mention mike easley.  i was just thinking about that possibilty today.  even though im a republican, i really like mike easley and i voted for him in 2000.

a lot of democrats dont like him because he is not a 'party man'.  in other words, he doesnt go out of his way to help fellow dems.

Landrieu would be a dark horse candidate too.

My previous analysis

Most likely choices:
Edwards
Vilsack
Nelson
Bayh
Richardson

Other Possibles:
Warner
Gephardt
Breaux
Cohen
Graham

Dark Horses:
Landrieu
Reid (Nevada)
Rendell
Harkin
Rockerfeller

Not possible:
Cleland
Clinton
Feinstein
Boxer
Kerrey
Blanche Lincoln

I would move Hillary to "Other Possibilities" and I would put Brokaw on that list.

I don't view Hillary as a possible candidate.  It would kill Kerry's chances to choose an ultra-liberal, very contraversial woman from the Northeast.  He would be an idiot.  The "Clinton-wing" of the Democratic party is exaggerated.

If Kerry wants a woman as a VP then he can go Landrieu, who is a Southerner generally percieved as a moderate.

she's only controversial to conservatives.

She's controversial to moderates as well.  Kerry can't win with the liberal vote alone, and they're voting for him anyway.  There is no need to appease that wing of the party.  The scandals and havok that the GOP will rake up will ruin Kerry's chances if he chooses her.

He'll look too corny.  John Kerry wants everyone to be reminded of his military service constantly, but he doesn't want them to KNOW he is, especially it looks like he chose a man who isn't fit to be president in order to do so.

I like the guy to... but then again I get plenty of abuse from Liberal dems on other forums for my beliefs so there you go... thing is isn’t Easley running for re-election this year... hows he looking over there? I think he could be a candidate at the presidential level in 2008 and someone no one has picked up on... sad thing is the liberal activist wouldn’t stand him...

I like Easley as well Smiley
He's a pretty safe bet for re-election... the GOP don't have a good candidate (Burr decided to run for Senate, and after Edwards' dropped out, he looked like a shoo-in (at least to me) Then trade became an issue...)
---
How about this for a cunning swap? Kerry picks Easley as his running mate, and Edwards runs for NC Gov?
---
Or: Kerry picks Breaux, who then resigns his Senate seat. Blanco appoints John as Senator.

easley is looking strong (i made a thread about him in the governors forum)

i do think this will be easley's last political campaign.  i dont think he enjoys politics too much.  and as i said, the democratic establishment doesnt care for him at all.  two high profile dems (lt. gov and state treasure) openly considered a primary challenge to him this year.

edwards has taken jim hunt's place as the nc democrats 'golden boy'.

So would it be possible that if he is not Kerry's VP or in a Kerry Admin or if Kerry loses but Edwards is still his runningmate that Edwards could run for Gov in 2008?

it's possible.  however, i doubt edwards has any aspirations of being governor.  if he ran for any office in 08 (other than the presidency), it would probably be the us senate seat currently held by elizabeth dole.

lt. governor beverly perdue is gearing up for a run for governor in 08 (she has been laying the groundwork for years)

state treasurer richard moore and sec of state elaine marshall are also likely democratic candidates in 08.
