As it's in the last day.

Poor - ultimately too PR-obsessed and never gave the impression of being greatly principled. Also not too willing (as Thatcher was and even Major to a certain extent) to stand up to his backbenchers which proved to be his downfall. A few good policies were implemented, but just about every PM can claim that. A lot of his legacy is still TBD of course.

Poor, but it could've been worse. At least we got gay marriage.

Poor- would be tempted to give him average if it wasn't for the EU referendum, and the entire disaster. I've never personally liked Cameron- but he's pulled the conservative party remarkably to the middle considering the man before him ran an election campaign based on 'I know you're a racist, so am I...'' Passing gay marriage, keeping foreign aid at 0.7% of GDP and supporting action in Libya all get praise from me

The moderately good things - gay marriage and aid are completely overwhelmed by the terrible. His devotion to completely unnecessary budget cuts for a start, that allowed the free-market ideologues (Osborne, Javid...) to do some irreversible harm.

I can't believe that he could be called a moderate when looking at some of the things that happened under his watch.

That and Brexit, and the potential end of the union, which would cement his reputation as the worst PM in history.

Of course at the moment everyone is a bit upset with him. Right-wing remainers are upset he called the referendum and thus caused brexit, right-wing brexit supporters are of course mad he wasnt a brexit supporter and left-wingers are upset with him on principle.

I do suspect that with a bit of time he will come to be viewed quite favorably though, once the brexit issue settles down and the lefties get a new tory PM who will be "the worst most evil prime minister ever, even worse than Thatcher" to get their act up about.

The thing is even if brexit goes well and the UK is set free in a shining new era his legacy is still boned because a) he opposed it and b) the credit will go to May.

Truth is, we don't really know what his legacy will be without hindsight. Economically his premiership has been constrained by the global poor growth rates, a focus on austerity (as opposed to the seeming One Nation rhetoric of May and initial Big Society rumblings) and a far too powerful Chancellor. Most prestige projects like HS2 are essentially bipartisan. Education reform seems to be resented at the moment, but could one day be accepted by the public at large. The NHS reform bill was a mess that basically pleased nobody. Etc.

I think the Cameron ministry will be seen as part of a global pattern of small petty national governments in a globalised economy they were unable to control. And ultimately its last act was futile, opinion poll driven and self-destructive.

Also pigs.

I do suspect that with a bit of time he will come to be viewed quite favorably though...

Unlikely: even if you ignore the Brexit business (and it's hard to) and the possible ending of what the Scots call The Union he was pretty crap at actually governing. I'm not just talking about CUTS here (although it's wrong to pretend that the political nature of the way they have been imposed has not caused problems, particularly in local government). His domestic policy legacy is largely a series of ill-conceived and poorly executed administrative reforms largely embarked on and supported in order so that the government could be seen to be doing things. There's very little to be happy about that will last, other than a lot of upgrades to the road network in or near marginal constituencies. He gets the formalisation of gay marriage as a silver lining I suppose, but...

I mean there's a faint whiff of Stanley Baldwin to all this; yes, you aren't bad at winning elections. But then what?
