Commie it is.

If the question were a Commie vs trump, that'd be different.

If an actual Communist, then third party.

If a Wulfric "Communist," then I probably would have been working on their campaign.

What kind of judges will this "communist" appoint to the Supreme Court?  If he/she is going to appoint from the exact same pool as Obama/Hillary, than him/her.

If not, then I'd campaign hard for a third party until November and maybe reluctantly vote Cruz if no one else had gained traction.

This might sound like a weird answer, but it would probably depend on what kind of communism the person was proposing. If they wanted to completely remake the American economy in the Soviet ideal and suspend basic rights, I'd vote Johnson. If it was just Kshama Sawant on steroids, I might consider voting for them so long as we could then get rid of them ASAP.

Well, there are no real communist judges that I know of - would it matter to you if this person preferred an unapologetic liberal like Goodwin Liu or a "consensus" choice like Sirvansian or Garland?

I don't think Cruz is a good analogy. Jeb Bush would seem to be the most accurate comparison to Hillary. Gaffe-prone legacy politician but fairly moderate by their party's standards and with a long history in public service.

This. Hillary is not from the fringe of her party like Cruz is, so it's not a fair comparison.

I'd do a write-in if Cruz were the nominee, but I'd reluctantly vote for Jeb if it was him.

It wouldn't.  The more you talk, the more I'm convinced that the "communist" is the obvious choice, because of checks and balances.  He/she is strong on everything except civil liberties, and couldn't appoint anyone that wouldn't check he/she on civil liberties issues.

At best, he/she would appoint some of the names you described; at worst, they keep nominating crazy people who are never confirmed.

I would enthusiastically vote for Johnson if the Democrats elected a communist, regardless of whether it be the garden variety type or super-villain, Wulfric caricature type.

I think a Lyndon LaRouche nomination would have been a good parallel to Trump.

I'd vote third party since Cruz is unacceptable (with Kasich or Jeb, I'd likely vote Republican). In this scenario, Gary Johnson would most likely be my choice.

A Democratic socialist like Bernie would get my vote, but no communist.

Take out the bolded parts and I could see myself supporting the Communist, but with the bolded parts I'd definitely vote for Cruz. Cruz is terrible, but at least he supports the First Amendment. I also think completely open borders would be a disaster.
