This Rachel Maddow video pretty much sums it up.  I think the similarities are striking.  Like Donald Trump, who accepted "the mantle of anger", Carl Paladino literally used the slogan "I'm mad as hell and can't take it anymore."  They both appealed to white resentment of various minorities to win in their nomination contest.  And like Paladino, who lost by 30 points in a Republican wave year, Trump will probably lose by a lot in a winnable year for Republicans because he appeals to few people outside of his core base.

It's only fitting that Paladino is Trump's NY campaign chairman.

Comparing 2014 to 2010, it looks like Paladino did ~7% worse than one could reasonably expect a Republican candidate to get given the conditions. So Trump is on track for 43-44% of the vote. Johnson probably gets 3% and Stein gets 1%, so Clinton will probably win by ~9%
