The primary responsibility of the position of Speaker, is to keep the trains running so that the will of the people may be expressed effectively by its representatives. The Speakership is not a partisan position here unlike real life, even while the House is at least nominally more partisan and political and that is once again for simplicity sake and effectiveness. The partisanship comes from the ability of the majority to get its legislation passed. When party's have placed acquisition of the office for the sake of the office, they have often ended up disappointed and having to see their ability to pass legislation erode because partisanship triumpthed over competence. The Speakers is thus primarily an administrator.

 Over the course of the past year, we have worked mightily to fix the various barriers to success, including a substantial redraft of the rules, drastically improving the noticeboard and creating the Deputy Positions, which had to be put to use this past session for the first time. We went from a completely dysfunctional house to one that is as functional as the members composing it make it (number of bills/amendments offered, debate occurring). As Speaker one finds that the most frustrating task is that you may go to extreme lengths to prod members, at the end of the day the best you can do is lead the horse to water, only the people can make them drink.

For the past year, majorities of both the left and right have trusted me to keep path to success clear and I have, and though the members have not always taken full advantage in terms of policy making, this has enabled several tremendous legislative accomplishments (including Healthcare) that would not have been possible previously.

Though I would like to move back towards the Whips sending out the PMs so that more people are invested in making this place succeed, if reelected as Speaker, I will appoint an active Deputy Speaker and will continue to ensure that the House remains functional procedural and administratively. And with the help of the people, push for improvements in the discourse and participation on the part of individual members.
