Hello, welcome to We Shall Overcome

We Shall Overcome: The Twisty Sixties

34th President Dwight D. Eisenhower 1953 - Present Day

Introduction.

Introduction:
Welcome to We Shall Overcome! This has been a WIP for a long while but now finally comes to fruition. We Shall Overcome is similar to Atlasia in someways with some ways of some of the Presidential Election games mixed in. To sum it up you will pick a Senator and play as them until either their actual death or if you choose another candidate. We won't experience a Non-AI President until January 1961 because I want to get the game started with my own spin and give the reigns away once this game has been shown to be sufficiently able to survive on its own.

Enough boring stuff though, let's get to the heart and soul of this game. Politics. As I said before, you pick a senator(s) for which you use as your avatar to the world of 1960's America. You will vote, argue on, and hopefully pass legislation vital to the times of the game. Now you may be asking  that there will probably not be enough players to take up all 100 Senate seats. You are correct, that is why I will be playing as the remaining AI and will vote as the actual persona(s) would have probably voted unless I am convinced with an impassioned speech that could sway the AI otherwise.

One of the most exciting things will be the Presidential Elections which will be very intense and last for the amount of time in the game it takes until the election. It will not be a "post your schedule" campaign, it will rely on your effort it attempting to campaign legitimately and win over the hearts and minds of the voters (TL;DR More activity, better polls.). You can be a Senator and run for President not as your Senate in this corresponding Presidential Game.

As I mentioned, there will be no turns, there is just time. As has been mentioned to be before about this that turns do not work as people will get bored. This is why this will be similar to Atlasia, I decided that it would be one IRL week = one In Game month. And every week I will post a Game Moderator type newspaper. I'm open to suggestions though.

On the matter of an end date, I have none currently, but I had thought of making it 1992 so it covers the Cold War, Watergate (if it happens or something similar), and the Reagan Revolution.

Anyway, sign up here, folks!

John Kennedy (D-MA)

I assume the game starts in 1953, meaning we must be Senators who were in office from 1953?

1959, but yes.

Also, somebody choose a Republican - we gotta make this thing interesting!

I'd like to ask to be a co-moderator, and add my introduction plus rules. I have a whole lot that I had planned, but I have so much IRL that I probably couldn't handle this in its entirety.

Since we need a Republican, I'll switch to Irving Ives, Senator from New York.

Nah, you stay. Just whoever next signs up. I won't be starting this until we have at least 10 players

Well if Alaska or Hawai'i are not options, I will choose Richard B. Russell (D-GA) even if he is a racist segregationist.

Trying to decide on a potential Senator to pick. Anyone have any good suggestions for a Republican? I'm leaning towards Javits right now.

Javits, Pres Bush, or Kuchel would be fun. Or, you could take a Dem placeholder and switch after the 1960 results, or even not take office until 1960. Up to you.
