The one part of this whole election that really confuses me is why (former lifelong Republican) Justice felt the need to switch parties in 2015, contra the rest of the state, and run for Governor as a Democrat. This would be a much less competitive race if he'd simply stayed where he was and won the Republican nomination. Unless, considering how few West Virginians vote in the Republican primary and how hyper-partisan those who do are, he was worried Cole would actually beat him?
