Yeah, this is where we are nationally.

Wouldn't be surprised if we saw at least one national poll over the next week that actually has Johnson at 15, btw.

Trump has gained 5 points since their last poll in August.

Trump personally only gained a point, up from 38%. Clinton lost 4 points, 3 going to Johnson.

If Trump cant lead now, I dont think he'll ever be able to take the lead in the aggregate(except that one time on RCP).

Yes, the race has tightened, and it pretty close right now. That doesn't mean Trump will just continue to gain, or that things won't shift again in Hillary's favor next week.

Clinton's literal collapse and deplorables statement are right in the middle of this sample. Have they mentioned anything about possibly different results before and after the weekend?

biden would have been crucified even during the dem primaries....with every silly thing he said during the last 50 years or so juxtaposed ...like a giant buffet for every enemy opp-researcher.

maybe he would have prevented, in some parts, the demise of the blue collar-part of the democratic coalition but i am not sure if he could have hold together the young obama base on his own too.

Clinton still doing better with her own party than Trump is, if you believe this poll.  Trump keeps it close though because of support among Independents:

Dems
Clinton 88%
Johnson 7%
Trump 3%
Stein 2%

GOP
Trump 82%
Johnson 8%
Clinton 7%
Stein 1%

Indies
Trump 38%
Clinton 29%
Johnson 20%
Stein 9%

Also, Trump is only a few points ahead of Johnson among non-whites:

non-whites:
Clinton 58%
Trump 19%
Johnson 16%
Stein 3%

The poll has Johnson doing better among non-whites than among whites.  Has a Libertarian nominee ever done better with non-whites than whites?  Not saying it’ll happen this time, but I guess Johnson could benefit from some of the few right-leaning non-whites out there being sufficiently turned off by Trump that they go 3rd party.
