So I've noticed that at the shows I go to now regardless of age restrictions there will always be more people my age than people under legal drinking age much less 18 present. There doesn't seem to be in any fresh blood in the scene, even at a show for a band like The Wonder Years who are REALLY big by underground standards. I don't hear of shows being booked in quickly rented out venues like high school gyms* or "youth center" type venues anymore, it's always bars or a house show. Even though 21+ shows don't really happen in Minneapolis (it's perfectly legal for people 18 and up to enter bars in the city as people are marked as over 21 or not ala "beer bracelet" so all bars have 18+ shows), it's not really an issue because just about everyone at a show has a beer bracelet ANYWAY. Like I said in a post awhile back, how many of today's teenagers have even heard of Taking Back Sunday? Hell their average fan age is probably like 27 or something today!

But when I was in high school, this was not the case. I liked Minor Threat and Rites of Spring, and the modern day descendents of those bands. And those bands were from around 15 years ago then. So why aren't today's teenagers appreciating this?

Could it be that BRTD has finally become an old man?

These kids and their loud music. They have no taste! It's not like our generation...

Although in this case it's more "these kids and their NOT loud music"...

Reminds me of a thread where I complained about Snapchat and these were some replies:

"BRTD, you sound like you're 30."
"BRTD can't stand kids today with their hippity hop music and snappy chats."

But my music was around and popular with teenagers in 1988.

So I just realized that basically the only generations that like good music AT ALL are Millennials and the younger Generation Xers. That's basically it. Ugh.

BRTD finally took the first step towards becoming an angry old white Republican man.

Why would any Republican like my music?

I've noticed that the median age on r/poppunkers is like 32.

Or maybe you're just an out of touch old fart, what are you, like 40?

35.

Thing is if I go on forums about music that high schoolers loved when I was in high school it's all people my age.

Yes, because high schoolers loved it when you were in high school, and those people, having been high schoolers when you were in high school, are roughly your age.
Yes but there was a perhaps largely naive assumption common st the time that since only high schoolers liked it we'd outgrow it.
