In the USA, the last debate on TV take place more than two weeks before the election day.
In other countries, the last debate on TV take place less than one week before.

Why the period between the last debate and the election day in the USA is so long?

Early voting has started. Debates are intended to provide important information to help guide voters. It somewhat defeats the utility of early voting if the debates are happening well into the early voting process.
